“Under the clear directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Trade and Industry is fully committed to harnessing the power of our creative industries. The DTI will continue to provide our artists and creators with the necessary infrastructure and support, like this Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo, until Filipino talent gains the global recognition it truly deserves.” ~Cristina A. Roque, Trade Secretary
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which is spearheading the Philippines' ambition to become Asia's Premier Creative Hub by 2030, formally opened the five-day national event known as the Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo (MPEx), which will take place at SMX Aura in Taguig City.
In celebration of Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), the MPEx is the first gathering of all nine creative domains and their 73 sectors: audiovisual media, visual arts, digital interactive media, design, performing arts, publishing, traditional cultural expressions, creative services, and cultural sites.
In charge of the ceremonial inauguration, Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque said the expo emphasizes the vital role Filipino creativity plays in advancing economic progress.
The dynamic and immersive layout of the expo, which highlights the nine sectors through specialized creative pavilions, allows visitors to experience exhibits of paintings, sculptures, and art toys in addition to exceptional works in comics, animation, and publications.
Another significant component of the event is the "Malikhaing Pinoy Chats," a series of talks and debates that unite government policymakers, experts, and aspiring creatives.
At the "Creative Matchmaking for Filipino Games," a pitching event that will also allow independent and student game developers to present their ideas to business leaders and potential investors, Dungeon King of Midnight Equinox stood out and took home the Best Game Pitch honor.
The event features a number of prominent organizations and exhibitors, including:
- The Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP)
- The Philippine Fashion Coalition and Design Center of the Philippines for design
- The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) for digital interactive media and audiovisual
- The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is a significant performing arts exhibitor, whilst the Ayala Museum represents the cultural sites category.
- Reintroducing MPP as a flagship program of the government to empower Filipino creatives across the nine creative domains.
- Showcasing Filipino creative excellence through exhibits, performances, and features
- Providing learning, networking, and market access opportunities for the creative community
- Engagement with key leaders and stakeholders driving the growth of the Philippine creative economy
This milestone event offers the media an exclusive opportunity to gain insights into the government’s roadmap for the creative industries and witness how Filipino creativity is being positioned on the global stage, with the Philippines set to become Asia’s premier creative hub.
MPEx is a flagship initiative of the Malikhaing Pinoy Program, led by the DTI through the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council (PCIDC) Secretariat, to elevate Filipino creative industries.
