Indian Coffee Leader to Highlight Robusta's Role at the First Philippine Coffee Sustainability Congress

The first Philippine Coffee Sustainability Congress will take place on October 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Makati Sports Club in Makati City. The PCBI is pleased to announce that Mr. Nishant Gurjer, owner of Kaapi Royale and Sethuraman Estate in Chikmagalur, India, will be one of the esteemed speakers at the event.

More than 200 years ago, Mr. Gurjer's family received their land, and he has since transformed Kaapi Royale into a world-renowned manufacturer of some of the best specialized Robustas.  His work at Sethuraman Estate is renowned throughout the world for incorporating biodiversity and soil health into all facets of agriculture while adhering to the "do no harm" ethic.  Kaapi Royale is now a shining example of how Robusta can promote climate resilience, sustainability, and farmer economic development.

He will discuss "Robusta and Its Role in Coffee Sustainability" at the Congress, providing a unique chance for Philippine stakeholders to hear directly from one of the leading experts in regenerative Robusta production.  His observations will be particularly pertinent as the Philippines, which produces the majority of its coffee domestically, looks for innovative ways to improve its standing in the world market.

The 1st Philippine Coffee Sustainability Congress will gather local and international experts, government officials, and private sector leaders to discuss critical topics, including:
  • Global trends shaping the coffee industry
  • Robusta’s rising role and value reassessment
  • Government and private sector collaboration in the coffee value chain
  • Regional perspectives from South and Southeast Asian origins
  • The 2nd Coffee Cup of Distinction Awards

Additionally, attendees will have the chance to network, participate in market matching, and partake in a unique coffee cupping session.

The sponsors of this historic event—Land Bank of the Philippines, Peace and Equity Foundation, Equilibrium Intertrade, UCC Coffee Philippines, Kopiko, Alaska, and Silcafe—have made it possible.
