Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities in schools continue to be deficient, putting Filipino students at risk for preventable infections. Inadequate access to sanitary facilities and clean water is responsible for around 80% of diarrhea-related deaths in the Philippines, making diarrhea one of the leading causes of illness and hospitalization there. This most recent health problem shows how tainted water and poor hygiene continue to expose children to diseases that may be prevented.
By focusing on prevention rather than therapy, Erceflora's flagship program, Batang Matatag, addresses child mortality from diarrhea. Over 200,000 children in various Philippine regions have benefited from the initiative since its inception in 2022, which promotes better cleanliness, hygiene education, and knowledge of gut health.
Erceflora's Batang Matatag program has improved everyday conditions where children study and develop and contributed to measurable health gains by building WASH facilities and donating chilled water fountains to over 104 schools in BARMM, Luzon, and Rizal. Diarrhea cases decreased by 20% in partner Rizal schools and by 50% in BARMM schools throughout the 2024–2025 academic year.
By 2026, Erceflora wants to reach 150,000 medical professionals and students as the program expands throughout Metro Manila and Rizal. This will support the program's objective of enhancing children's resilience through better hygiene and gut health.

Batang Matatag Day 2026: Growing the Mission, Strengthening More Young Lives
Instead of slowing down after five years, Batang Matatag is growing. Batang Matatag Day 2026 represents a renewed effort to expand the program's reach, with a visit from Opella Healthcare's executive leaders—CEO Julie Van-Ongevalle, Chief Growth Officer Alberto Hernandez, and Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer Matthieu Brucker—as well as partnerships with seven new schools, including Maharlika Integrated School in Taguig.
In order to promote healthy behaviors at an early age and reinforce well-being at its core, 200 kids in Grades 2 and 3 took part in interactive activities like the Batang Matatag Bus lessons on proper handwashing.
