There will be a three-month program for each category where participants are prepared according to their fitness levels, Macalintal, owner and founder of Trimac Coaching, announced during the launch of the program at Earth Kitchen in Bonifacio Global City on Friday.
The program begins on April 4 at the AS parking lot in at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City.
Popularly known in the triathlon community as Coach Jomac, Macalintal has 18 years of experience in triathlon coaching and competition. Coach Jomac has been in every nook and cranny of the sport as competitor, coach and oprganizer.
‘‘As local triathlon grows, Trimac would like to extend its knowledge to help provide solid basic skills and hone talents,’’ Macalintal said during the press launch. The program can accommodate affiliated and non-affiliated triathletes who wish to improve. Assisted by a pool of coaches, Macalintal will not only train beginners and turn them into triathletes; he will also train triathletes to be more competitive.

"Anyone can be a triathlete. Kids, students, housewives and mothers, and office workers and even whole families who aim just to be physically fit can swim, bike and run any distance, from sprints and mini-sprints to Olympic and Ironman distances under a good triathlon coach with a good program,''Macalintal said.

If they wish to, trainees may qualify as members of Team Trimac, one of the oldest and most active triathlon teams in the country.

Macalintal is certified as coach by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and was selected Coach of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2012, by the swimbikerun.ph, the country’s most popular multisport website. His team Trimac was Triathlon Team of the Year in 2011 and his program continues to churn out top-level age-group and elite and youth triathletes.

Also a certified spinning and TRX instructor, Macalintal also turned promising youths into national pool triathletes under the pioneering Trimac Kids program. Currently, he overseas the grassroots Batang Tri program, which trains poor but promising youths under the sponsorship of Seafood Island with the support of other sponsors like Brooks Running.

Trimac Coaching hopes to help a lot of newcomers at the sport with this program. After observing the impressive performances of youngsters in the IronKids part of the recent Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Subic last weekend, Macalintal said it won’t be long before the country’s ever-growing triathlon community will produce a competitor who will compete in the Olympic Games.

Corporate supporters of the program are Brooks, TYR, Gu Gels, Apotheca, KLEAN and Unilab Active Health.

HIV POSITIVE POSTER TOUR DE PILIPINAS

I'm glad to cover about an advocacy about AIDS the HIV POSITIVE POSTER TOUR DE PILIPINAS and was curious about what it means and what it is all about. Social media has become a huge part of HIV campaigns, but this campaign is the first of its kind that I've ever been part of.
A drop of HIV-positive blood.
Would you step back and move away from it?
The HIV epidemic in the Philippines has been described as “explosive,” with the fastest rate of increase in new HIV cases globally. While other countries have managed their HIV epidemics and are now witnessing a significant decline in the number of new cases, the Philippines has recorded sharply increasing rates of new infections.
An HIV awareness campaign that aims to reduce the stigma associated with HIV through the innovative HIV-Positive Poster will be holding its Tour de Pilipinas, visiting key sites in the country starting this February. The HIV-Positive Poster, which is one of the main features of the awareness campaign, is made with a drop of HIV-positive blood.
The HIV posters were originally developed by Grupo de Incentivo a Vida (GIV), a non-government organization based in Brazil. Made with a drop of blood donated by a person living with HIV (PLHIV), the posters carry messages that explain how HIV is transmitted, and underscore that people can NOT get HIV from the poster, or from casual contact with a PLHIV. The HIV-Positive Poster campaign has won international awards such as the Bronze Lion at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival – Press Category.  The poster was first released in Asia (in the Philippines) by Pedal for HIV, in partnership with GIV – Life Support Group.
Tour de Pilipinas, organized by Pedal for HIV and GIV, aims to:
  • Increase visibility of the HIV Positive Poster
  • Provide information on HIV
  • Empower the youth to became advocates
  • Reduce HIV stigma & discrimination

Faustine Luell T. Angeles Jr., founder of Pedal for HIV, will be travelling to key sites together with two representatives from the Brazil-based GIV – Life Support Group. Tour de Pilipinas will have the following schedule:

Banaue – 16 February
Palawan –23 February
Cebu – 1 March
Boracay – 6 March
Iloilo – 10 March

The specific venues in these locations will be announced later.

Tour de Pilipinas is organized in partnership with The Red Whistle, an HIV awareness campaign that uses the arts and social media in its advocacy to normalize HIV and AIDS. Sponsored by Premiere Condoms, Spyder Philippines, Catch Restaurant, Hooch Bar, 2GO Travel, HOWWWL Digital, Hotel Centro, WhenInManila.com & GoPro.

7 WAYS FOR A HEALTHY DIGESTION
A smooth running digestive system relies on the right foods at the right time.
Of all our bodily functions, we probably focus more on our digestive system than any other. I’m sure one reason for this is that we have plenty of opportunities to ‘touch base’ with our digestive tract and take a reading. After all, you get signals from your digestive system all day long – everything from “feed me!” to “could you loosen the belt a little?“ to “air comin’ your way!” Your digestive system has a way of speaking up – and has a lot to say about what you put in it… as well as how much and how often.

Many of us eat too much or eat too fast. We don’t eat enough fiber. We skip meals – and then subject our systems to a gigantic plate of food. Considering how much use and abuse our digestive systems have to withstand, it’s a wonder we don’t suffer more than we do. Gas, bloating, “having a hard time going” – not a day goes by that someone doesn’t complain to me about one of these common digestive problems.
Let’s look at what you can do to ease any strain on your digestive system.
Common digestive system ‘disturbances': gas, bloating and irregularity
Gas production is a normal part of the digestive process and, unless it’s excessive, usually indicates a healthy intake of fiber and a well-functioning digestive tract. Most foods that contain carbohydrate – anything from beans to bagels – are not completely broken down during digestion, so the resident bacteria in your intestines take over, producing gas as they complete the digestive process. The average person passes gas about 14 times a day, releasing about a half-liter of gas in the process.

Some people describe feeling bloated after eating – sort of a ‘puffed up’ sensation that comes on rather quickly, mostly in the upper abdomen. It is often the result of air that gets trapped in your digestive tract, which can come from a surprising number of sources. Often, it’s simply a matter of swallowing a lot of air while you eat – which often happens if you eat too fast or do a lot of talking while you’re chewing. Sometimes carbonated beverages can leave you feeling bloated since you’re taking in a lot of air along with your liquid. Some people get that bloated feeling when they eat a fatty meal – fat delays the time it takes for food to leave your stomach, so it can leave you feeling uncomfortable.

Irregularity is one of the most common digestive complaints – it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Many people think if they don’t visit the bathroom on a daily basis, they’ve got a problem. But if things are moving smoothly – whether it’s three times a day or three times a week – you probably don’t have anything to worry about.
Marie Seguismundo, Herbalife Marketing Manager, discusses the Herbalife operations and the company’s projects.

7 TIPS FOR HEALTHY DIGESTION
1. Get enough Fiber
Fiber is the structural portion of a plant, so it’s found in fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains. Adults should be eating about 30 grams of fiber a day.  Busy lifestyles contribute to the problem, so aim to have a fruit or vegetable with every meal or snack. Toss some beans into a soup or salad, and choose whole grains over refined “white” breads, cereals, rice and pasta.
2. Get some “Good” Bacteria
The digestive system is home to thousands of strains of beneficial bacteria that help to break down foods that are resistant to normal digestion, which allows a person to obtain more nutrients from food. The bacteria in the digestive system also help keep the growth of other, potentially harmful, bacteria at bay – thus promoting healthy digestion.

While the idea of consuming bacteria in the diet may not sound appealing, the probiotic bacteria found in yogurt and other fermented foods can promote digestive health. Aside from yogurt, eat fermented soy products (miso, tempeh, kefir), as well as pickled foods like cucumber pickles, sauerkraut and kimchi.
3. Get Regular Exercise
Exercise is also good for the smooth muscles of your digestive tract. Exercise stimulates the muscles to contract, which keeps things “moving along”. Exercise is also a great way to relieve your body of stress, which makes it particularly good for those whose digestive systems act up when they get stressed out.
4. Don’t go too Long without Eating
When you go too long without eating, a couple of things are likely to happen. You’ll eat quickly because you’re so hungry, and you’ll eat too much, because you’re starving. Either way, you could end up with some kind of indigestion. Your digestive system is likely to be a lot happier if you eat regular meals and snacks throughout the day.
5. Take your Time when making Dietary Changes
Often time when people are bothered by gas, they figure the best thing to do is to eliminate ‘gassy’ foods like beans or broccoli from their diet. But rather than eliminating these healthy foods, try eating just small amounts over several days to give your system time to adjust. Similarly, if you’re trying to add more fiber to your diet, work your way up to the recommended 25-30 grams of fiber gradually.
6. Take your Time Eating and Eliminating
When you eat too fast, not only does it lessen the enjoyment of your meal, you’re also more likely to swallow air, which can lead to gas build up and bloating. When you eat too quickly, you’re more likely to overeat too, since it takes for the stomach about 20 minutes to tell the brain that it’s full. This can lead to further digestive discomfort. Lastly, when nature calls, act on it immediately. Too many people put off visits to the restroom if the urge to “go” strikes at an inconvenient time. Sure, the urge may pass, but if you put it off, you’re more likely to have trouble getting the job done.
7. Meet your fluid needs
Fluid helps the fibers in foods to “swell” and helps to add more bulk to the material passing through the lower digestive tract, which keeps things running smoothly. Watery fruits and vegetables go a long way in meeting fluid needs, but it’s still important to drink fluid throughout the day, too.
