SB19 returns on "THE FIRST TAKE" with soul-stirring performance of "MAPA"

“We’re excited to share a different version of MAPA to the local and international audience through THE FIRST TAKE. We’re honored to showcase Filipino music on a music platform with a reputable track record of elevating the global presence of the artists performing. Mad props to THE FIRST TAKE for giving us a chance to impart a piece of our cultural and music sensibilities in ways that could be challenging but exciting.” ~SB19

SB19, who recently made headlines by surpassing 100 million views on their official lyric video for MAPA,” is back to THE FIRST TAKE” with a new performance of another hit song.

Following their viral hit "GENTO," which they performed during their debut on YouTube channel “THE FIRST TAKE” on July 1st, their second performance video for "MAPA" premiered on July 15th (Monday) at 9:00 pm, Manila time.

For their second performance on THE FIRST TAKE, SB19 will showcase the emotional song "MAPA," a stark contrast to the explosive "GENTO,. In this performance, attention should not only be given to their performance but also to the heart-warming lyrics dedicated to their parents and parent figures.

Unveiling of The San Juan EcoBridge Plastic Recycling Project

Launch of the San Juan Ecobridge Plastic Recycling Project, which will transform the nation's first footbridge out of recycled and sustainable materials which is a Groundbreaking Collaboration between MMDA headed by Chairman Don Artes and the Media Puzzle Holdings Corp, and Kamaymanos Art and Design Co. benefitting San Juaneños and those who visit the city. ☺️ We were joined by Vice Mayor Angelo Agcaoili and our City Councilors.

The Project has been initiated by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in association with Media Puzzle Holdings Corp and in cooperation with Kamaymanos Art & Design. This project is revolutionary because it is the first footbridge in Metro Manila to be decorated with recycled materials that are sustainable, raising the bar for both environmental sustainability and urban beautification.

The San Juan EcoBridge, located at Ortigas Avenue Extension and Club Filipino Avenue in San Juan City, has been transformed from recycled plastic waste, primarily sachet plastics. This project not only improves the aesthetics of the footbridge, but it also addresses pressing environmental concerns by repurposing materials that are traditionally considered non-recyclable.

Atty. attended the unveiling event. Romando Artes, Acting Chairman of the MMDA, and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora. Both dignitaries expressed their enthusiasm for the project, citing its potential to set a precedent for future urban beautification and sustainability initiatives.

(L-R) Cherry Carrera (President-Media Puzzle Holdings Corp), Atty. Romando Artes, (MMDA Acting Chairman), Francis Zamora (Mayor - San Juan City), Gio Orbos and Nathalie Z, Co Founder KamayManos Art And Design

Orbos also emphasized the Philippines' significant contribution to ocean plastic waste, citing Metro Manila's heavily polluted rivers. He hopes that the San Juan EcoBridge Retrofit Project will catalyze a global movement toward environmental sustainability and demonstrate that Filipinos are not only part of the problem, but also the solution.

Ms. Cherry Carrera, president of Media Puzzle Holdings Corp., thanked the MMDA for their collaboration and support in using the footbridge for this groundbreaking project. She emphasized that this initiative is perfectly aligned with the MMDA's values and represents a pioneering effort within Media Puzzle Holdings Corp.'s ongoing footbridge beautification program. Carrera also stated that this project is only the beginning, and that with this initial effort, the future of the environment looks promising.

Carrera also expressed her gratitude to San Juan City LGU, particularly Mayor Francis Zamora, for their unwavering support for this project. She emphasized that their dedication to improving the city's infrastructure and environment has helped ensure the project's success.

The San Juan EcoBridge Retrofit Project will serve as a model for sustainable waste management and urban beautification. It encourages a creative approach to environmental issues by demonstrating the potential of recycled materials to improve urban environments. This initiative not only improves San Juan City's visual landscape, but it also promotes a shift toward more sustainable practices, setting a strong example for other communities to follow.

Angkas awareness spreads nationwide, turning stigma into opportunity as Filipinos support formalizing habal-habal

Angkas has gone a long way toward shaping and changing public perception of motorcycle taxis. The company's efforts have not only raised awareness, but also generated significant advocacy, which has contributed to the industry's success. According to WR Numero, a leading research firm in the Philippines, 48% of Filipinos recognize the Angkas brand. Furthermore, the study found that 45% of Filipino participants now use habal-habal for transportation, with 14% reporting regular use and 11% using it two to four times a week.

According to a recent study published by WR Numero, 58% of Filipinos "agree with or strongly support" the legalization of habal-habal, an unregulated motorcycle transportation service. Furthermore, 78% of Filipinos believe having an advocate in Congress is critical, highlighting the importance of MC Taxis in the lives of Filipino commuters. The WR Numero Philippine Public Opinion Monitor, a pioneering and innovative public opinion research initiative, polled people aged 18 and up nationwide about habal-habal. These findings emphasize Angkas' critical role in raising national awareness and advocating for the motorcycle taxi industry.

Since its inception in 2016, Angkas has worked tirelessly to dispel the myth that using motorcycles to transport passengers is dangerous, demonstrating that with proper training and education, motorcycle taxis can be a viable and safe mode of transportation. The company has set new industry standards, demonstrating its commitment to safety and dependability. By 2019, Angkas had established its safety credentials with an impressive 99.997 percent safety record, as evidenced by multiple court and congressional hearings. Following this success, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) established a technical working group (DOTr-TWG) to conduct a feasibility study on MC Taxis, in which Angkas and two other players participated.

Following Angkas' achievements, George Royeca, co-founder and current CEO, has emerged as a leading transportation advocate. Royeca has been advocating for job opportunities for habal-habal riders and providing legitimate two-wheel transportation options for commuters for nearly ten years. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in Angkas' success and the growth of the motorcycle taxi industry.

Angkas was threatened with termination several times in its early years due to regulatory challenges and concerns about the safety of MC Taxis. Royeca addressed these concerns by instituting rigorous biker training and emphasizing excellent service delivery to ensure safety and sustainability. To date, over 50,000 motorcycle drivers have been lifted out of poverty by Angkas, thanks to Royeca's biker welfare initiatives such as dependable loan programs, benefits, and incentives that formalized the previously informal habal-habal sector.

Royeca's commitment to the motorcycle taxi industry and advocacy efforts have paved the way for significant progress. The strong support (58%) for legitimizing habal-habal riders demonstrates Royeca and Angkas' success in advocating for the inclusion of the informal sector in the country's labor force while also providing commuters with a safe, quick, and comfortable transportation experience. Congress is currently working on regulatory laws for MC Taxis that are structured in accordance with the TWG recommendations. Royeca and Angkas' faith in habal-habal riders has paved the way for this watershed moment in the local transportation industry.

Angkas' success in raising national awareness and advocating for the motorcycle taxi industry has been critical to its growth. George Royeca's leadership and unwavering advocacy have earned him the respect of the industry and the 18 million-strong motorcycle riding community. Angkas and George Royeca continue to drive forward the industry, ensuring a better future for millions of motorcycle riders in the Philippines.

Quiniones, LCF Board Chairperson and Executive Director, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.

L-R: Edric Calma, LCF Board Trustee and Vice President, Knowledge Channel Foundation; Shem Jose Garcia, LCF Vice Chairperson and Executive Director, Vivant Foundation; Elena Van Tooren, Managing Director, East West Seed Foundation; Dyan Tee, Assistant Executive Director, Metrobank Foundation; Myn Garcia, Deputy Country Representative, Asia Foundation; Jose Gabriel Dimalanta, Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network Secretariat (SUN Network); Joanna La O, Director for Strategy and Program Innovation, Jollibee Group Foundation; Ramon Derige, LCF Board Treasurer and Executive Director, SEAOIL Foundation; Hon. Jim S. Hataman-Salliman, Governor, Province of Basilan; Angie Sapitula-Evidente, Lead Manager, HAPAGASA Program, Assisi Foundation; Enrique O. Canoy, Corporate Communications Head, RMN Networks; Rina Lopez-Bautista, President and Executive Director, Knowledge Channel Foundation; Sebastian C. LIFE is the League of Corporate Foundations' flagship project through 2024 and beyond. LIFE is a League-wide initiative to combat waste and stunting.  Stunting can have serious and long-term consequences for affected children, as well as Philippine society as a whole, if these issues are not addressed.

The Province of Basilan is one of the League's initial focus areas. It will collaborate with the provincial government and other interested parties to bring the program to the people of Basilan. Hon attended the launch. Jim S. Hataman-Salliman is the Governor of the Basilan Province.

Hon. Jim S. Hataman-Salliman, Governor, Province of Basilan

The condition is permanent; stunted children who reach adulthood may be less healthy and productive, earning less than adults who were not stunted as children. Stunting is caused by poor nutrition in both young children and pregnant women, including a lack of essential micronutrients like iron and Vitamin A.

Mr. Shem Jose Garcia, LCF Vice Chairperson and Executive Director, Vivant Foundation.

Stunting affects 26 percent of Filipino children under the age of five. Stunted children can struggle to learn, perform poorly in school, and miss many days due to illness.

Mr. Sebastian C. Quiniones, Jr., LCF Chairperson and Executive Director, Pilipinas Shell Foundation

LIFE aims to reduce, if not eliminate, stunting, wasting, and malnutrition in one province at a time, using the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

Mr. Austere Panadero, LCF Board Trustee and President, Zuellig Family Foundation

LIFE includes nutrition-specific interventions such as supplementary feeding, micronutrient supplementation, nutrition promotion for behavior change, and nutrition during emergency situations; nutrition-sensitive interventions such as a "Greenlihood Program" (provision of vegetable seedlings to target FK1D groups) and WASH interventions; and enabling mechanisms such as the establishment of a nutrition office that will undertake relevant activities such as the conduct of trainings in nutrition.

Ms. Joanna La O, Director for Strategy and Program Innovation, Jollibee Group Foundation

The LIFE launch coincided with the launch of the inaugural Medal of Recognition, which recognizes outstanding corporate social responsibility initiatives carried out by organizations that are not members of LCF, as well as the celebration of National CSR Week in the Philippines.

Ms. Dyan Tee, Assistant Executive Director, Metrobank Foundation

According to Presidential Proclamation No. 299, the LCF is responsible for leading the celebration of National CSR Week in the first week of July. 2000, including organizing the annual CSR Conference and Expo.

Rene “Rhen” Dimaano, Agriculture Advocate, The Project Eight Initiative DTI Undersecretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development Group (MDG)

Mr. Rene "Rhen" Dimaano, a dedicated advocate for Agriculture advocacy under the Project Eight Initiative, recently attended the 2024 Department of Trade & Industry (DTI)-Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair. This event, held over five days from July 3 to 7, 2024 at the Megatrade Halls 1-3, 5th Level, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, was a grand showcase of the rich tapestry of Filipino flavors and culinary heritage. Now in its 10th year, the National Food Fair, billed as the Philippine Cuisine and Ingredients Show, drew a loyal foodie following and presented an opportunity to embark on a delicious adventure.

Organized by the DTI Bureau of Market Development, Promotions, and OTOP (BMDPO) — formerly known as the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) — in collaboration with the DTI Regional and Provincial Offices, the event served as a premier platform for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food and beverage industry. This sector forms nearly half of all MSMEs in the Philippines, highlighting the fair's significant role in promoting local businesses.
