“The expansion of electric vehicles into the DHL Express fleet plays an important role in reducing the environmental impact of our business processes as part of our commitment to one of our Group’s four bottom lines, green logistics of choice. Recognizing the global urgency of climate change, our goal as a logistics leader is to adapt our service offerings and operations to the changing landscape.” ~Nigel Lockett, Country Manager of DHL Express Philippines
DHL Express, the world's largest international express service provider, has added 22 electric vans (EVs) to its last-mile pickup and delivery fleet. With this integration, DHL Express now operates approximately 70 EVs, representing 35% of its total fleet, up from 24% last year. The expansion of the electric vehicle fleet demonstrates the company's commitment to its fourth strategic bottom line, "Green Logistics of Choice," as it integrates sustainability into its 2030 strategy.
This development is consistent with DHL Express' sustainability goals, which focus on using alternative fuels, electric vehicles, and optimized transportation routes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In December 2021, DHL Express added EVs to its fleet for the first time in the Philippines. This program contributes to DHL Group's global goal of using electric vehicles for 60% of its fleet of pickup and delivery trucks by 2030.
Reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 is a goal of DHL Group's “Strategy 2030 – Accelerate Sustainable Growth.” In 2023, DHL Express introduced the GoGreen Plus service, which enables users to use sustainable aviation fuel to lower the greenhouse gas emissions related to their international air cargo, in addition to electrifying its fleet. Important collaborations with bp, Neste, and World Energy enable GoGreen Plus.
