The biggest entertainment convention of the year happened last August 25 - 28, 2016 at The World Trade Center.

Got the opportunity to meet my favorite HISTORY celebrities, taken photos of largest rally of cars and bikes even yacht, Screamed at Virtual Reality simulations, witnessed historical exhibitions, enjoyed live musical performances, seen participants on breaking World Records Attempt and had the chance to get a peek of the brand new HISTORY shows.

A+E Network Asia's leading factual channel, HISTORY rolled out the red carpet in Manila at the inaugural of HISTORY CON to welcome its on-air talents for their upcoming new and returning original productions.

A+E Networks® Asia’s first-ever HISTORY CON event drew over 50,000 fans last weekend to the iconic World Trade Center in Manila, and reached 17 million more online, along with HISTORY stars, local celebrities, social media influencer's, exhibitors and other guests. The ticketed event was packed with activities to keep the throngs of guests entertained with its diverse lineup of appearances, performances, screenings, talks, demonstrations and other hands-on experiences.

HISTORY Stars Draws Huge Crowds

HISTORY fans got up closeand more personal than ever with some their favorite network stars such as STORAGE WARS’ Brandi Passante and Jarrod Shultz and GANGLAND UNDERCOVER’s Damon Runyan and Ian Matthews at ‘meet and greets’ where they took selfies, received autographs and asked them everything they’ve been dying to know. ANCIENT ALIEN’s Giorgio Tsoukalos marked his first Asian tour with scintillating 90-minute talks on Saturday and Sunday, which made even the most skeptical people question if extraterrestrial life exists. PHOTO FACE OFF’s Justin Mott revealed the secrets behind his incredible images at his Master Class before the program’s new season kicks off in September. The public also got to meet the cast of CELEBRITY CAR WARS - HISTORY’s brand new series premiering later this month - which stars Filipino celebrities KC Montero, Joey Mead King, Marc Nelson and professional car driver, Gaby Dela Merced, as well as host of the show, Bobby Tonelli. Jugs Jugueta from rock band Itchyworms, social media influencers from MCN Chicken Pork Adobo and from social media network Mig.Me including Mich Liggayu also made special appearances to the delight of all guests.

World Records Broken

HISTORY CON shattered several Guinness World Records, including‘the longest TV-watching marathon’ with a time of 100 hours and 15 minutes, besting the previous record of 94 hours.This record, sponsored by Panasonic, Yakult and SKYcable, was shattered by Andrew Casano and Francis Gerodias on Sunday, 28 August at 4pm. On Saturday, 27 August, another two records were broken. The first wasfor the ‘most burgers consumed in one minute sponsored by Zark’s Burgers’ with a total of 5 burgers eaten by Rix “Terabite” Francisco. The second record was presented by Jolly and Fly Ace for the ‘largest serving of sautéed mushrooms’ at 335kg. This feat was so enormous volunteers from CCA Manila, FEU Manila, La Consolacion Manila and Tanauan, and Chef Winston Luna of Chef Wix were called in.

The HISTORY themed booths, which showcased the network’s most-watched shows also received a steady stream of visitors. History buffs were engrossed by the World War II and Philippines Presidential limousines exhibit, while gear heads were captivated by one of the largest rallies of cars and bikes under one roof. Adventure fanatics picked up some skills on wilderness evacuation techniques, as animal lovers watched presentations by the Philippine Canine Association on using dogs to help with search and rescue and narcotics detection.

HISTORY CON Goes Digital

HISTORY HUSTLE host Simon Yin covered the event as the official digital host of HISTORY CON, imparting his quirky, gregarious humor to the proceedings and ensuring fans who could not make it down to the event could still partake in the fun online via HISTORY’s Facebook page from home and watch highlights from the event resulting in over 3 million video views and 2.5 million engagements on Facebook in one week.

HISTORY discovered a brand new digital star from the Philippines at a live audition it held during HISTORY CON at the HISTORY Digital Studio. From all the promising talent who took the stage on Sunday, Cyede Evangello was chosen to co-host a webisode for the channel with Yin.

There were also winners every hour with the HISTORY CON Treasure Hunt powered by iQNECT. Visitors could collect badges at the various booths by scanning videos with the iQNECT app for exclusive HISTORY branded goodies, with a trip for two to Singapore as the grand prize!

The event culminated with the HISTORY Bee Awards presented by Yakult and Pik-Nik on Sunday where William Patrick Panganiban of Manila Science High Schoolwas crowned the champion for the Grade School Division, while John Carlos Duque of Batasan Hills National High School took home the prize for the High School Division. There was also two special preview screenings of HISTORY’s series, RIDE ‘N SEEK WITH JAMIE DEMPSEY: THE QUEST FOR THE PRIESTESS’ CLOAK which was filmed in the Philippines, and CELEBRITY CAR WARS. Both series premiered last Sunday, 28 August on HISTORY at 9pm and 10pm respectively.

TPB ENHANCED PHITEX 2016 BIGGER BUSINESS

It was an honor to be part of the #PHITEX2016: Bigger Business, the event is set to accommodate more than 200 international buyers from across 37 countries worldwide and 199 local sellers from 132 companies across the Philippines. The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) presents a more enhanced Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX), the most important annual travel trade event.

“PHITEX has been instrumental in boosting the Philippines’ image as a top tourist destination. The event also strengthens international relationships among the industry’s key players to further the growth of Philippine tourism,” ~Susana J. Del Mundo, PHITEX Deputy Secretary General

Highlight of the event is a series of business-to-business sessions between foreign buyers and local sellers. This year, the number of sessions has increased to 40 as compared to 28 in the previous years. This aims to broaden their chance of interaction and to encourage more in-depth discussions on tourism and trade opportunities.

PHITEX 2016 gives the buyers an opportunity to meet the Philippine sellers where they will be introduced to the Philippines’ best offerings in terms of travel and tourism products and services. This can be considered a momentous time for Philippine sellers for they will be given an edge to offer globally competitive tour packages to the international market and learn of other countries’ trade strategies to apply in their own practices.

Buyers from as far as the United States, Norway, Italy, Denmark and Germany and even from neighboring Asian countries such as South Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam were given an opportunity to experience fun and exciting pre-tours with hotel inspections around the country’s capital, Metro Manila.

The pre-tours conducted last September 3 included a visit to the famous walled city of Intramuros to get a glimpse of history during the Spanish colonization. Buyers visited Fort Santiago, which houses the Rizal Shrine museum where memorabilia of the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, are displayed. They also visited San Agustin Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Agustin Museum, and enjoyed a brief cultural show at Casa Manila. Buyers also inspected some of the city’s most luxurious hotels, namely New World Hotel Makati, Makati Shangri-la Hotel, Fairmont Makati, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, Shangri-la at the Fort and Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, to name a few.

The post-tours are just as exciting since it will feature the Philippines’ premier destinations including world-class accommodations, entertainment and convention venues and business facilities. Buyers get to choose a tour that fits well with their interests and offerings. The Ilocos module includes a tour to the northern region of the country, where there is an interesting blend of local and Spanish cultures. Another module takes the buyers a trip to Southern Luzon and experience exotic beauty of beaches nestled against the jungle.

Buyers can further discover the wonders of Palawan which is recently named as the Best Island in the World. They can ride a paddleboat to Puerto Princesa Underground River, considered one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The Cebu/Bohol post tour will give the buyers an opportunity to catch a glimpse of historical landmarks, a taste of lechon in Cebu, and an iconic view of the majestic Chocolate Hills in Bohol.
