Today, we show once more to the whole wide world how unique the Filipino cares for its elderly. And, no amount of challenges can dampen our spirit of loving and caring for our Lolos and Lolas. For, even in the midst of a pandemic, we continue to celebrate Grandparents’ Month this 2020.

Our lolos and lolas have a special place in our hearts. Family gatherings and weekend activities whether in malls, restaurants, or in our ancestral homes almost always involve them. Unfortunately, the pandemic has been particularly challenging for the elderly, many of whom are not allowed to leave their homes under current restrictions.  Many cannot go out to see their family and friends until the quarantine restrictions are lifted.

To ensure that the elderly do not feel left out in these difficult times, Ortigas Malls in partnership with ARTISTSHOPcares has launched a heartwarming initiative called “Apo that cares” in time for Grandparent’s Day on September 13. The ArtistShop is the same organization behind the famous S.I.L.Y.A. chairs made especially for the elderly that are found around Ortigas Malls as well as airports, commercial centers, and other public places around the country.

“Apo that cares” aims to bring the mall experience to lolos and lolas through their grandchildren. “Apo” comes from the word apothecary, which traditionally is a person who prepares and sells medicine. For this campaign, apothecary doubles as apo – the Filipino word for a grandchild – and how they deliver care and love to their grandparents. Through the initiative, gift bags containing liquid hand soap and soothing balm may be purchased by grandchildren at Ortigas Malls and delivered to their elders – a gesture to remind them that although they may not be around to join the rest of the family in mall visits, they are still remembered. 

Through “Apo that cares”, Ortigas Malls and ARTISTSHOPcares aim for this year’s Grandparents Day to remain memorable and joyful.

Support Local Businesses at Greenhills’ Weekend Market

To support small business enterprises (SMEs) during this unpredictable time, as well as to bring household essentials closer to Greenhills’ community, Ortigas Malls partners with Barangay Greenhills to bring The Greenhills Weekend Market. 

In an effort to better serve the community, Ortigas Malls partnered with Barangay Greenhills to bring a weekly Weekend Market at the V-Mall Parking at Greenhills Center. This initiative started last August 22 and will continue every Sunday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The Greenhills Weekend Market aims to support small business enterprises (SMEs) during this unpredictable time, as well as to bring household essentials closer to Greenhills’ community. Food such as frozen and fresh seafood, meat and poultry, and vegetables can be found at the market from vendors such as:

• Candy and Ronnie Vegetables
• Alvin’s Fish
• Eharvest Trading
• D&G Fruits
• and others

Some familiar vendors are famous:

• Auntie Anne’s pretzels
• Nacho Bravo
• The New Albergus’ frozen foods

Aside from fresh produce and baked goods, the Weekend Market offers other souvenirs and household items for the whole family. Plantitas and plantitos can rejoice as they enjoy a green haven with a variety of plants and florals that fit any and every home.

Ortigas Malls assures that the arrangement of the stalls at the Weekend Market encourages social distancing to protect its shoppers as well as implementing thermal scanning as mandated by the IATF. Face masks and face shields are also required upon entry.

Re-opening of salons and dine-in restaurants

With people eager to have their hair cut after being in quarantine for almost three months, salons in Ortigas Malls finally opened their doors to mall-goers with strict sanitary measures and 50% capacity, making more room for those who are in need of a haircut, hair recoloring, or a pedicure. 

Well-loved restaurants in Ortigas malls such as Kimpura, Gloria Maris, Manam, and Wildflour have already started accepting dine-in customers. They don’t only provide safe dine-in options with acrylic dividers and observe allowed maximum capacity with social distancing, but also offer exciting deals to guests!

Cashless Parking and Car Wash Service

Customers can now enjoy worry-free parking transactions as they visit Ortigas Malls as payment is made more convenient with PayMaya terminals accepting Bancnet, Mastercard & Visa cards.

You can even save time by getting a car wash while completing your shopping with Greenhills’ Shop N’ Wash. Mall-goers can request for the carwash service upon entering the parking ground of Greenhills Mall.

In an effort to support all tenants as they bounce back from the health crisis, Ortigas Malls is providing an avenue for them to maximize their online presence through the Live Studio  – a content creation 

hub located inside the mall for all tenants to showcase different products and explain their features in a live feed. Each studio will be equipped with a complete camera and lighting setup for them to shoot their updates, latest deals, and newest products that consumers can watch safely at home. 

Active Playground for a healthier shopping experience

Greenhills will also be pioneering the launch of an Active Playground that promotes a convenient space for bikers, joggers, and people who want to have a leisurely workout throughout the day!

Greenhills will have dedicated bike lanes and bike parking with signages placed throughout the complex to guide bikers and to lead them to the designated parking spaces where they can lock their bikes before shopping. For those that bike for fitness, every day from 6 AM to 8 AM, Greenhills will be implementing “Bike Priority” lanes for bikers.

To encourage mall-goers to stay fit and active while going around, there will be pop-up challenges in different areas of the mall, encouraging patrons to jump, hop, balance, and have fun.
