Tanduay still is World’s Number One Rum for Second Straight Year
For the second consecutive year, Drinks International has declared Tanduay the World’s No.1 Rum. Tanduay remains the world’s industry leader when it comes to rum. For the second straight year, the 165-year-old Filipino brand has stayed in the No.1 seat and outperformed other foreign rum brands in the latest report released by Drinks International.

Drinks International, a global spirits market think tank, released this month it's Ranking of the World’s Million-Case Spirits Brands for 2019. Annually, it releases industry updates and rankings of brands that record volumes of a million 9-litre cases or above the previous year. There were 153 brands surveyed from last year.

The report indicated that:
“The two-horse-race between Bacardi and Tanduay seems to be a thing of the past, with the latter boasting an additional 3M cases in 2019, the report said. the major players in the rum category do seem to be in a more powerful state than they were 12 months ago.”

Tanduay shared the announcement during a media conference held at Century Park Hotel Manila on June 15, 2019.  During the same media conference, Tanduay announced its partnership with the city of Bacolod in staging the first Rum Festival in the Philippines. The week-long celebration, To be held from Aug. 17 to 24, 2019, the Tanduay Rum Festival was being mounted in partnership with the city government of Bacolod, the city where the finest sugarcane comes from. Pays homage to the city’s sugarcane industry.

On the Rum Festival’s first day, Aug. 17, the festival will have an Open Kitchen Competition and a Mixology Contest. Contestants will be asked to make dishes and cocktails using rum and will be judged by prominent culinary and mixology professionals.

The first day will likewise see the opening of a food bazaar that will feature various local Bacolodnon and rum-infused dishes for both locals and tourists to enjoy.

The visual arts, meanwhile, will take center stage from Aug. 19 to 23 as a Street Art and Barrel Art painting will be held to showcase the talent of Bacolod’s local artists.


On Aug. 24, there will be a 5k Rum Run that will have a mini obstacle course, where participants will go through a mud crawl and a cold pool dip. Following the race is a Street Dance parade and contest. Interested participants can form a group of 30. They can also make their own mini floats and join the colorful Rum Festival Float Parade to win cash prizes.


The Rum Festival will end with a concert featuring rock bands and hip hop artists from Bacolod and Manila.
