Tanduay's Two Gold Wins in the U.S. Raises the Bar for Philippine Rums Anew

“The awards Tanduay has received throughout the years show that Philippine rums can truly compete with the world’s best. And what makes our latest wins at the Bar-tender Spirits Awards even more special is that it was judged by a panel composed ex-clusively of bartenders and hospitality professionals. These are the people who know what spirits truly shine from shelf to glass. These international awards reflect Tanduay’s commitment to Filipino craftsmanship and innovation, and they inspire us to continue showcasing the best of the Philippines on the global stage.” ~Roy Kristoffer Sumang, Tanduay Interna-tional Business Development Manager

Two year Bartender Spirits Awards in Chicago, USA. This strengthens Tanduay's standing as one of the world's leading producers of premium rums.

Tanduay Reserve Rum 10 Years and Tanduay Double Rum both earned 95 points to win the coveted awards in a competition that evaluates spirits based on how well they perform in real hospitality settings.

Two of Tanduay’s Finest Premium Rums

A mixture aged in former Bourbon barrels for a further two years. This aging process results in the award-winning rum's harmony of flavors throughout, making it a great sipping rum.

According to the 2026 Bartender Spirits Awards’ tasting notes, Tanduay Double Rum’s “aromas of honeysuckle, marzipan, and nutmeg lead to a palate of toasted toffee and cacao, culminating in a soft, long, and very pleasant finish.”

Another well-known product around the world is Tanduay Reserve Rum 10 Years, a powerful blend of rums aged in oak barrels for ten years. It is an overproof rum with an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 50.5%.

In the 2026 Bartender Spirits Awards, its tasting notes were “aromas of honey, dried fruit, and spice” that “lead to a smooth, approachable palate with evolving candied fruit notes and a balanced, lingering finish.”

How Products Are Scored

Spirits well or combine in cocktails; and balance and versatility, or their flavor and aroma. Their packaging, inventive design, la-bel quality, label details, back-bar appeal, functionality (like shape, size, weight, and ease of pouring), and value—that is, their price and value—are also assessed.

Bronze medals are awarded to spirits who score between 80 and 84, silver to those who score between 85 and 89, gold to those who score between 90 and 95, and double gold to those who score 96 or higher.

About Tanduay
Tanduay is one of the most-awarded rum brands in the Philippines, receiving various local and international citations. In 2017, it was declared the World’s No. 1 Rum by Drinks International magazine. Tanduay will hold this title for nine consecutive years.

Tanduay started out as a distillery in Hagonoy, Bulacan, a province in the island of Luzon known for its heroes and craftsmen. It changed ownership throughout the decades and has been under the Lucio Tan Group of Companies, Inc., one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines, since 1988.

Even as the years passed, Tanduay has maintained the traditional way of distilling its rums, a practice that started in its now decommissioned Manila distillery. What Makes Up Tanduay’s Award-Winning Rums

Tanduay Double Rum routinely wins international spirits competitions. Tanduay's expertise in blending and maturing is evident in this premium rum, which is made from a blend of rums aged 16 and 5 years and aged in ex-bourbon barrels for an additional two years. This process makes this award-winning product a fantastic drinking rum.

It smells of toasted almonds, cooked pineapple, and tropical dried fruits. Its color is dark amber. It is an excellent aged rum with flavors like caramelized pineapple and a delicate blend of cherry and vanilla. It has a refined, medium-long, woody, raisin, and tropical zest aftertaste and a medium-sized, round, fruity body.

Another example of the brand's longevity is the gold medal-winning Tanduay Reserve Rum 10 Years. Old Bourbon barrels are used to mature this rum for a minimum of ten years. Its rich scents of toasted oak, vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, and tropical dried fruits make it an excellent option for drinking straight or as a base in cocktails. It smells of caramel, vanilla, and dried fruits in harmony with the aromas of toasted oak.  It has a medium-to-full weight, a rich, creamy texture, and a smooth, slightly woodsy finish with lingering aromas of dark chocolate and raisin.

Tanduay Asian Rum Gold is another award-winning premium rum in the brand's excellent portfolio.  This rich and sophisticated rum, which has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels for up to seven years, can be drunk plain or blended. It has a lovely mix of sweetness and alcohol, a vivid golden amber color, and expressive scents of vanilla, tropical fruits, coconut, and nutmeg. Its aroma is sophisticated and refined, and its body is dry, smooth, and mellow. On the nose, you can smell mature honey, almond, caramel, toasted oak, orange peels, and vanilla.

Pot and column still black rums are meticulously mixed to create Tanduay Reserve Rum Overproof. With notes of caramel, cherry, vanilla, banana, pineapple, and pear, it smells light and fresh. It has a medium-intensity flavor that combines caramel and burnt sugar with notes of wood, vanilla, sherry, banana, and pear. It also has a smooth, comforting mouthfeel and an off-dry sweetness. It has a very intricate, medium-length finish.

Another award-winning product is Tanduay Asian Rum Silver, which is a blend of rum that has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels for up to five years. It's perfect for enjoying neat and well-balanced for blending. It has a soft straw yellow hue and is translucent and clear. With hints of toasted, coconut, and vanilla, the scent has a powerful citrus and grapefruit peel. It tastes like a well-balanced combination of cream soda and citrus fruit flavors. It has a crisp, fruity, satiny, light to medium body with a dry, sweet, and warm finish.

“Drinking culture is changing, and Millennials and GenZ are driving that change. They want something effortless without sacrificing taste, and Tanduay has responded to this demand with our RTD products like the Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri. They want something relaxing when catching up or celebrating. Their home becomes the new bar, and Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri blends with this new lifestyle.” ~Janno Gironella, Jr., Tanduay R&D Head

RTD cocktails have become popular among today's generation due to the rise of home drinking culture and a desire for convenience.  The Tanduay Flavored Mixes with Daiquiri taste are among the most well-liked RTDs available today.

With hints of cherry and almond cake, Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri tastes like a glass of fresh, juicy lemonade.  It smells of wonderful candied almond, zesty lemon, and fresh cherries.

It has the perfect amount of refreshing kick at 15% ABV.  Younger drinkers are more creative with flavors, but they are also more conscious of how much alcohol they consume, according to Gironella.

From House Parties to Quiet Wind-Downs

RTDs' appeal stems from more than just convenience; it also reflects modern lifestyles.  Instead than congregating in busy areas, people prefer to meet at their houses.

Another drink that's great to pack for a weekend trip with close friends is Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri.  It's also a fantastic way to wind down quietly by yourself.

Affordable Without Compromising on Taste

Without spending extra, Tanduay Flavored Mixes Daiquiri offers the same drinking pleasure as the well-known brand.  It's the ideal beverage for those on a tight budget who nevertheless want a tasty cocktail that takes little effort to make.

It's simple to buy as well as convenient to enjoy. Simply go to Tanduay's official stores on Lazada and Shopee or visit www.shots.ph to browse the brand's extensive selection of rums, RTDs, and other items.  They are also available at reputable liquor stores and supermarkets.

Tanduay Maintains Market Leadership as Profits Surge by 37%

With a record net income of Php2.15 billion in 2024, Tanduay Distillers, Inc. (TDI) reported a staggering 37% rise over the previous year's Php1.57 billion.  Higher sales volumes of both liquor and bioethanol—which increased by 2% and 1%, respectively—as well as calculated price increases that increased segment revenues by 13% to Php33.85 billion were the main drivers of this rise.

TDI maintained its dominant market shares of 70.6% and 79.6% in the Visayas and Mindanao areas, respectively, despite economic challenges such as inflationary pressures and weather-related interruptions that affected consumer spending.  However, because of increased competition in the industry, TDI's market share for distilled spirits fell marginally to 32.2% on a national level from 32.9% in 2023.

In October 2024, TDI sold its stake in Asian Alcohol Corporation as part of a strategic plan to simplify its holdings and concentrate on its core business.  The Php1.8 billion deal comprises an upfront cash payment of Php480 million and is arranged with a four-year payment term.  This deal is in line with TDI's long-term goals of improving economic viability and business optimization.

Due in large part to TDI's outstanding performance, its parent company, LT Group, Inc. (LTG), achieved record-breaking earnings.  With TDI making up Php2.14 billion, or 7% of the total, the conglomerate's attributable net income increased by 14% to Php28.92 billion in 2024 from Php25.42 billion the year before.  The steady expansion of the liquor division highlights how important it is to LTG's diverse business portfolio.

Other LTG subsidiaries reported strong financial achievements in addition to Tanduay.  The group's top tobacco company, Fortune Tobacco Corporation (FTC), reported a 12% increase in net income of Php12.77 billion, fueled by favorable foreign exchange gains and increased dividends from PMFTC.  At the same time, Philippine National Bank's (PNB) net income increased by 11% to Php21.18 billion.

A 5% increase in sales across its main product lines helped Asia Brewery, Inc. (ABI) achieve a 46% increase in net income to Php841 million.  In contrast, lower leasing revenue and increased operating costs caused Eton Properties Philippines, Inc. (Eton) to have a 53% drop in net income to Php212 million.  LTG's earnings were boosted by Php492 million from Victorias Milling Company.

In November, LTG announced a special cash dividend of Php0.35 per share, or Php3.79 billion, reaffirming its dedication to providing value to shareholders.  This resulted in a 53.2% payment rate, or Php1.25 per share, or Php13.53 billion, for the entire year-to-date dividend payout.

Tanduay Distillers continues to be a vital component of LTG's success, solidifying the conglomerate's place as a major player in the Philippine economic scene with its strong financial results, strategic initiatives, and sustained market leadership.

Especia Spiced Rum won a gold medal and Best in Category for Spiced Rum at the recent New Orleans Spirits Competition. The competition, judged by a panel of esteemed experts, recognizes fine beverages and spirits from top-tier producers around the world.

A gold medal indicates that Especia Spiced Rum excelled in a variety of categories, including aroma, taste, balance, and finish. Especia Spiced Rum, made from heirloom sugarcane and infused with exotic spices and tropical fruits, is one of Tanduay's most award-winning products in recent years.

Apart from Especia Spiced Rum, several Tanduay rums received medals.

Tanduay Asian Rum Silver was awarded a silver medal, while Tanduay Asian Rum Gold and Tanduay Double Rum received bronze medals each.

Tanduay Asian Rum Silver, another award-winning product, is aged in bourbon barrels for up to 5 years and has a flavor profile of green, ripe fruits with hints of burnt sugar, mandarin, and vanilla. It has a pure and distinct flavor that is ideal for drinking straight or mixing into cocktails.

Tanduay Asian Rum Gold, on the other hand, is a dark rum with an excellent balance of alcohol and sweetness, as well as expressive flavors of vanilla, tropical fruit, coconut, and nutmeg. It is aged for up to seven years in bourbon barrels.

Tanduay Double Rum, another highly regarded product, is made from a blend of rums aged 16 and 5 years, which are then mixed in bourbon barrels for two years. This aging process contributes to its distinct taste, resulting in a good sipping rum with a harmonious blend of flavors from beginning to end.

Tanduay's victory at the New Orleans Spirits Competition is another significant accomplishment for the rum brand, which celebrates its 170th anniversary this year.

The Tales of Cocktail Foundation hosts the New Orleans Spirits Competition, whose judges include industry professionals, award-winning bartenders and distillers, decorated beverage writers, and industry luminaries.

Tanduay, the World’s Number 1 Rum, is now available in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario

“Our distribution in Canada will be in the whole country. We are already in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan and working on getting tenders on the government-controlled provinces like Ontario and Quebec. They have sales teams for almost every province in Canada, which gives Tanduay the best possible opportunities to be present in every province. We are already in the works in bringing our full range, which includes Especia Spiced Rum, Tanduay Rum Amber, and Tanduay Rum White to the country by 2024.” ~Marc Ngo, Tanduay International Business Development Manager and Senior Brand Manager

Leading Philippine rum brand Tanduay has partnered with distributor Christopher Stewart Wine & Spirits to make its award-winning products available in the Canadian market. The distribution is already established in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, with plans to enter Ontario and Quebec.

Ngo said they have partnered with Christopher Stewart Wine & Spirits for Tanduay’s Canadian expansion because they provided the best strategies to move Tanduay in Canada.

Launch Event with Sam Miller

For its Canadian launch, Tanduay presented a Sam Miller Guest Shift at the H Tasting Lounge last October 5. Miller is one of the leading names in bar-tending whose passion is the world of rum. He found his way behind the bar during college and has been tending for 13 years.

It was while he was working at Zombie Village in San Francisco that he first learned about Tanduay. They used its rums in five of their cocktail menus.

“They don’t add any sugar or other additives to the aged rums after distillation. Everything is in the bottle. It’s all a natural process. Rum doesn’t only come from the Caribbean islands. The Philippines have a long history of rum production and have an ideal climate for excellent rums.” ~Sam Miller, Guest Shift at the H Tasting Lounge

Tanduay makes its rums in the Philippines using quality sugarcane sourced from the country’s leading sugarcane-producing regions. Extracted Grade A molasses from these crops then undergo a refining process. They are then fermented and turned into liquid ready for distillation.

The brand owns an arsenal of oak barrels, which it uses to age its rums. Aging alcohol in these barrels transforms their flavor and complexity. The Philippines’ tropical climate further enhances them.

Miller shared that his favorite is the Tanduay Double Rum, which he said is very bold and evenly balanced. “It’s the perfectly aged rum,” he pointed out. He considers the Tanduay Asian Rum Gold, meanwhile, as one of the easiest mixing rums.

Apart from the event with Miller, Tanduay also hosted an Industry Masterclass and Blackbox Cocktail Competition as part of its Canadian launch. The event was held at The Permanent  last October 4. Later that day, the brand held a launch party at Lunch Lady where they served Filipino cuisine along with Tanduay cocktails.

There Is a Tanduay Rum for Everybody

Tyler MacKenzie, Brand Manager of Christopher Stewart Wine & Spirits, noted that each Tanduay rum has great balance, structure, and character, so the portfolio easily appeals to a wide variety of tastes. Like Miller, he likes the Tanduay Double Rum the most for its complexity and extra barrel age.

Tanduay was named the World’s Number 1 Rum for six consecutive years, outselling rum brands from other countries.
“Canada’s rum market is very vigorous and there's a lot of opportunity for growth for Tanduay. The quality and the marketing behind the brand are strong. It will take us time to get across the country, but we will get there.” ~Tyler MacKenzie, Brand Manager of Christopher Stewart Wine & Spirits

Tanduay Double Rum, one of Tanduay's award-winning rums, is now available in Canada

As of this writing, the Tanduay rums that are available in Canada are the Tanduay Asian Rum Gold, Tanduay Asian Rum Silver, Tanduay Double Rum, Boracay Rum Coconut, and Boracay Rum Cappuccino.
