Globe Group, local partners turn Lolo, Lola into #SeniorDigizens in digital inclusion push

Gathering at least 220 senior citizens in half a day of enriching tech learning, the #SeniorDigizens event is backed by some of the biggest brands in tech and retail, and by senior citizen advocates from the government.

Leading digital solutions platform Globe Group is set to transform the digital landscape for Filipino seniors with its innovative "Teach Me How To Digi" #SeniorDigizen Learning Session, set on January 25 at the Skydome, SM North Edsa.

“It’s really very important that our senior citizens learn digital skills because in the future, a lot of services will truly become fully digital. We have to help the seniors overcome their fear. And I guarantee you that once you try it, it’s going to be as easy or much easier than the old manual way.” ~Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO

“As digitalization accelerates, tech adoption should be simple and easy for everyone, no matter the age. Technology should not be intimidating or difficult for our seniors, and they should be able to enjoy its benefits. The goal of our #SeniorDigizens campaign is to equip them with knowledge that will help them adopt new tech and apps that address their day to day pain points.” ~Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group

The event features learning sessions on digital skills: How to create a Gmail account to be facilitated by Google, a 101 course on using smartphones via Globe, and sessions on using fintech platform GCash and telehealth service KonsultaMD.

Apart from hosting the event at Sky Dome, retail giant, SM, is providing an opportunity for senior citizens to join the Super Grannies Club (SGC), the grandest Facebook community for seasoned individuals. As SGC members, participants gain early access to events, exclusive mall deals and updates on SM Cares programs. These include health and wellness activities like Walk for Life, the award-winning Emergency Preparedness Forum and community service programs that enable a fun, active and productive lifestyle for lolos and lolas.

SM’s loyalty program SMAC, meanwhile, sponsored the event in SM Malls, as it is one with Globe in giving importance and joy to senior citizens.

“We are happy to support Globe in bringing to fruition our shared vision of digitalizing seniors. SM has long given seniors priority in our initiatives, and so our partnership with Globe for the #SeniorDigizens campaign is natural and seamless.” ~Jay Beltran, Head of Sales and Marketing, Digital Advantage Corporation (DAC)

The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), led by its Chairperson and CEO Atty. Frank Quijano, has a booth where seniors will be guided on how to register in its database, which the agency hopes to build to take stock of the living situation, health concerns, skills and other important information about the country’s roughly 11 million senior citizens. The NCSC will also bring volunteers to help seniors in tech tutorials.

“We thank Globe for embarking on this program that addresses major concerns when it comes to seniors: digitalization and online safety. We at NCSC have been pursuing our own efforts to bring the elderly into the digital space safely, and we are happy to find an ally in the private sector to introduce seniors to new technologies while at the same time protecting them from the dangers that lurk online.” ~Atty. Frank Quijano, The National Commission of Senior Citizens Chairperson and CEO

Rep. Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay of United Senior Citizens Partylist is also on board, bringing senior citizen delegates to the event.

“We’d like to congratulate Globe for giving seniors priority through its #SeniorDigizens campaign. This is an initiative worth emulating. United Senior Citizens Partylist is one with Globe in seeing this through.” ~Rep. Milagros Aquino-Magsaysay of United Senior Citizens Partylist

The Quezon City government also brought a delegation of senior citizens to the event and provided crucial logistics support.

“The city government of Quezon City is proud to partner with Globe in this undertaking. In QC, we give our seniors top priority in terms of public services to help them live their sunset years as active and productive members of society. This project is key in helping them transition into a digital life and help them enjoy the benefits of modern technology.” ~Joy Belmonte, Quezon City Mayor

Meanwhile, #TeamGlobeofGood influencers Kiray Celis and Chuckie Dreyfus are lending their talent and bringing entertainment to the event, while internet personality Lester “Buji” Babiera, a talent of Globe Group agency NYMA, is bringing his brand of dynamic hosting onstage.

The #SeniorDigizen learning session, a significant effort to close the digital divide for the elderly, follows the success of the “Teach Me How to Digi” TikTok contest held in September last year. The contest received over 200 impressive videos showcasing tech lessons imparted by younger family members to their senior loved ones.

At the event, Globe will award 25 winners with prizes worth P25,000. They will also get to take part in the learning session.

"We are excited to help our senior citizens take their first steps into the digital world, ensuring they are not left behind in this fast-paced digital era. This event is our commitment to ensuring that they are not just consumers of technology but actively engaged in the evolving tech-savvy society.” ~Liza Reyes, Public Relations and Communications Strategy Head at the Globe Group

Globe’s #SeniorDigizen campaign promises not only to educate but also inspire a new generation of empowered seniors, ready to engage and connect in today's rapidly evolving digital environment.

City di Mare hosts Cebu’s Sinulog Festival for the 2nd year

Every January, Cebu attracts around 500,000 visitors globally to partake in one of the Philippines' largest and most renowned festivals, the Sinulog Festival. This lively celebration features vibrant costumes, fluvial parades, and continuous music as a tribute to the image of the Child Jesus – Sto. Niño de Cebu.

In its second year, the celebration at City Di Mare, the expansive 58-hectare coastal township along South Road Properties (SRP), has become even more magnificent and vibrant. It marked the culmination of the Sinulog Festival, warmly welcoming both Cebuanos and tourists to the 3-hectare Events Grounds at CDM.

With 30 percent of its property dedicated to open and green spaces, CDM has been the best go-to destination for various outdoor events that the community can partake postpandemic – from concerts such as the Aurora Festival and Summer Pop Up featuring popular OPM and homegrown artists; sporting competitions like runs, endurance races and dragon boat competitions to festivities, including the Sinulog Festival.

CDM, with its accessible location, is only 21km away from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, 7km away from the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, and 6.6km from Cebu City. It is centered within major thoroughfares like the Cebu South Coastal Road that plies Mandaue and Talisay, and Imus Avenue in Cebu City. Furthermore, the dedicated shuttle buses to CDM allow public access to SRP while improving foot traffic and increasing business investment in the district.

Additionally, CDM’s location offers a very strategic advantage with SRP poised to become the new economic hub in Cebu that is backed by significant government investments and the relocation of local government offices. Various real estate investment opportunities are also opening in the district with Filinvest Land Inc. continuously developing CDM, touted as the largest master-planned, integrated city in the district where all essential needs – be it retail, dining, rest or commute – are all within reach. Within the township are various residential projects, like Amalfi and San Remo, for anyone considering relocating or looking for an investment option in South Road Properties.

Apart from the residential clusters, CDM also houses the IL Corso Filinvest Mall, the only shopping and dining development by the sea where Sinulog Festival attendees explored retail and dining options during the exciting three-day festival.

Danish Dairy Board launches awareness campaign on European organic dairy in the Philippines

"Producing high-quality dairy products involves a deep respect for the land, the animals, and the consumers. It is about creating a harmonious, sustainable system that prioritizes quality without compromising on ethical standards. Through the campaign, our aim is to help consumers understand what makes organic dairy naturally good, particularly the numerous benefits it delivers to our body and the environment.” ~Mr. Ejvind Pedersen, Manager, Organic Food and Farming, Danish Agriculture & Food Council

The Organic Dairy PH campaign, initiated by the Danish Dairy Board (DDB), a collaborative organization of Danish dairies backed by the European Union (EU), is now underway in the Philippines. The primary goal of this educational initiative is to increase awareness about European organic dairy in the country. The campaign focuses on showcasing the quality of European organic dairy, emphasizing its nutritional advantages, and highlighting the sustainable methods employed in its production. The overarching objective of the campaign is to educate consumers in the Philippines, enabling them to make informed and gratifying decisions when choosing organic dairy products.

Organic dairy products, including organic UHT full cream milk, organic UHT low-fat milk, organic fresh milk, organic low-fat fresh milk, and organic cream cheese, are crafted through a comprehensive method that places emphasis on natural and sustainable techniques. This methodology adheres to stringent criteria that forbid the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and genetically modified organisms. It is centered around procedures that prioritize animal well-being, safeguard biodiversity and the ecosystem, guarantee the provision of safe and nourishing food, and minimize the impact on climate.

Moreover, dairy products play a significant role in developing a nutritious diet for both children and adults, as they are packed with essential nutrients, including protein, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins like B2 and B12.

In order to educate consumers in the Philippines about European organic dairy, the DDB has initiated a three-year educational campaign, jointly financed by the EU. This effort comes at a crucial time, coinciding with the rising concern among consumers regarding the nutritional aspects of their food. According to a recent study conducted by Food Industry Asia, 94% of surveyed consumers actively review nutrition information on packaging before deciding on food or beverage purchases. Moreover, the USDA predicts a 3% growth in the demand for dairy products in the Philippines, reaching 3.5 million metric tons in liquid milk equivalent by 2024.

The campaign includes Tasting Days at leading supermarkets and grocery stores in Metro Manila where consumers can sample organic dairy products until January 2024. Participating locations include Landers (Alabang, Arcovia, UP Town Center, BGC), SM Supermarket (Aura, Megamall), The Landmark Supermarket (Alabang, BGC, Makati, Trinoma), South Supermarket (Filinvest), and The Marketplace (Central Square, EDSA Shangri-La, Glorietta/Makati, Greenbelt, Rockwell).

Additionally, DDB will conduct VIP Consumer Classes, which will give attendees an opportunity to dive deeper into Europe’s expertise in producing high-quality organic dairy, gain insights into the nutritional benefits of organic dairy products, and learn several tips on creating meal plans and tasty dishes with organic dairy. DDB will also collaborate with influencers as well as parenting and food communities on social media throughout the campaign for a more interactive and engaging learning experience. Interested participants may follow Organic Dairy PH on Facebook and Instagram for more updates on how to register.

Individuals engaging in these events will be rewarded with an exclusive consumer kit containing the Naturally Good magazine published by DDB. This magazine serves as a valuable guide, providing extensive information on organic dairy production and presenting simple, delightful recipes incorporating the benefits of organically derived ingredients.

"The Danish Dairy Board is thrilled to see more consumers in the Philippines embrace the quality and rich tradition of European organic dairy as a result of this campaign. We believe consumers deserve access to a diverse range of top-tier dairy options that not only offer exceptional taste but also adhere to stringent standards and sustainability practices.” ~Mr. Lars Witt Jensen, Senior Marketing Manager, DDB

Stay tuned for upcoming events and discover the naturally good benefits that European organic dairy brings to your table. Follow Organic Dairy PH on Facebook and Instagram to learn more.
