U.P. SAMASKOM KICKS OFF LIVE A.I.D.S: HYSTERICAL REVISIONISM Tatlumpu’t Apat na Taon ng Makasaysayang Tawanan, Sayawan at Kimmy-nism

“What started as a mere applicants’ batch project in 1983 is now one of the most awaited events in the Diliman Republic. Each year, Live AIDS always surpasses its previous record number of fans who watch the show.” ~Venice Atienza, Live A.I.D.S Hysterical Revisionism Production Management Mentor

After five (5) years away from the theater scene due to pandemic restrictions, the longest-running comedy variety show on the UP Diliman campus has returned!

The 34th edition of Live A.I.D.S. (Ang Istoryang Dinebelop ng SAMASKOM), or Acts, Improvisations, Dances, and Songs, an annual musical-comedy series produced by the talented student organization UP SAMASKOM, will take place from July 5 to 7 at UP's Ignacio B. Jimenez - KAL Theater.

LIVE A.I.D.S.: HYSTERICAL REVISIONISM: “Tatlumpu’t Apat na Taon ng Makasaysayang Tawanan, Sayawan at Kimmy-nism” will put a funny but sharp spin and witty commentary on Philippine society while also adding a comic touch to trending topics and viral content. It promises to make audiences laugh and enjoy themselves like never before, with dances and dazzling production numbers interspersed throughout.

Venice Atienza is a former University of the Philippines student. SAMASKOM has worked in the show's production and creative departments for many years.

SAMASKOM alumni rule the local entertainment scene, whether in front of or behind the camera. LiveAIDS has launched the careers of Kuya Kim Atienza, Giselle Sanchez, RS Francisco, Raymond Lauchengco, Wency Cornejo, Ate Glow, Michelle O'Bombshell, Tuesday Vargas, Mrs. Tan, and KaladKaren, among others.

ABS-CBN's head of TV production, Laurenti (Loren) Dyogi, and ABS-CBN Global Head of Creative Services, Ned Legaspi, are both SAMASKOM alumni.

Live AIDS continues to draw devoted fans and viewers, including well-known figures like Bianca Gonzales, Ricky Lee, Quark Henares, John Lapus, Rajo Laurel, Jigs Mayuga, Tim Yap, and Vice Ganda.

“Live A.I.D.S. and the UP SAMASKOM are platforms where students and alumni members alike are given the opportunity to nurture their talents and skill sets, and essentially nurture them to face the real world.” ~Mrs. Tan, Filipino Drag Artista, seasoned dancer and performer of the show

“This show bolsters one’s talent, skills, and self-confidence. It’s evident in our alumni members.” ~Kaldkaren, UP SAMASKOM Alumna and a seasoned performer, veteran writer, production member, and former resident officer

“With the issues and concerns of the Philippines at present and history distortion as well, it is time to continue the UP SAMASKOM tradition of amusing audiences and making them aware of political and social matters. This year, through the Live AIDS legacy, everyone will hear what Samaskom will say about the current times. This is a show that finds humor on the right side of history. There is pressure to outdo ourselves every show. This is our comeback show - we want to reawaken our audience as we give them the best show they will ever see. It is terrifying but it is a welcome challenge. UP SAMASKOM is passionate in creating a show that speaks out and entertains at the same time.” ~Bill Barrinuevo, Live AIDS Hysterical Revisionism Director

U.P. SAMASKON The Legacy Lives On with LIVE A.I.D.S.: G na G sa 33

LIVE A.I.D.S. – Ang Istoryang Dinibelop ng SAMASKOM -- is back! Now on its 33rd year, the longest running live comedy show – not just on campus, but in the country – is set to deliver more laughter, good times and rollicking entertainment. This year, the well-loved campus sketch-comedy and musical presentation will be staged during the weekend of June 21-23 at the ABELARDO HALL of UP Diliman and will feature skits and production numbers directed by Deo Divina Gracia. It will star your favorite entertainers plus new talents whose brand name is entertainment with a capital E.

“The biggest challenge in directing and staging a LIVE AIDS production is staying relevant and meaningful while delivering the laughs that our loyal viewers are always expecting. Logistically, gathering students and alumni who have different priorities, interests, sensibilities, and schedules is also a huge challenge for a director. UP Samaskom is such a great organization because it openly embraces everyone regardless of social status, gender identity and religious persuasion. It's a family that helps us discover and understand ourselves and also learn many things that help us succeed in the university and in our post-UP life. Live AIDS is that time each year when can drop everything and put on a show for everyone.” ~Director Deo M. Divinagracia

As a result of its unique and unbridled brand of showmanship, Live AIDS has continually garnered fanatics and avid viewers who have regularly flocked to the show over the course of three decades of production. Live AIDS remains a popular avenue for individuals from all across the university to hone their talents, celebrate their diversity, and showcase their creativity through the gift of self-expression. Its staying power can be attributed to the teamwork of the residents and alumni of UP SAMASKOM. The bonds that are built within the “samahan” and the trust that is fostered among the members do not only keep the show alive, but allow it to kickstart the careers of comedy stars like Giselle Sanchez, Ate Glow, Michelle O’ Bombshell, Tuesday Vargas and KaladKaren Davila to name a few.

The 33rd edition of Live AIDS will be quarterbacked by Director Deo Divinagracia. A bona fide veteran of the show both in terms of performance and production. He looks to incorporate both classic and modern methods of direction, stage production, and writing in order to create an even bigger explosion of social commentary and parody combined.

Live AIDS is an analysis, exposure, and creative satirization of the modern socio-political sphere we live in as well as the pop culture that has become so ingrained in our lives. Essentially, it parodies the experiences of modern-day Filipinos in our diverse society. Run by a company comprised of both young, talented students and experienced professionals, Live AIDS boldly tackles the present, trending, and viral. It portrays on stage social realities mixed with comedy, spectacle, and entertainment that everyone is certain to enjoy!
