ASEAN Para Sports Games meet in Manila in Preparations for the 10th ASEAN Para Games that will be hosted by the Philippines


Preparations for the 10th ASEAN Para video games to be able to be hosted by using the Philippines in January 2020 goes full swing this June with the assembly of the ASEAN Para physical games Federation (APSF) that will be attended by means of Heads of countrywide Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from the 11 member nations of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines.

ANDREW PARSONS

Andrew Parsons was elected President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Paralympic Movement’s global governing body in September 2017. Preceding his election as IPC
President, Andrew was the lPC Vice-President from 2013-2017 and an lPC Governing Board Member between 2009-2013.

During his time as President of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee from 2009-2017, he transformed Paralympic sport in his native country, making Brazil one of the strongest and biggest Paralympic nations in the world. Throughout the years, Andrew has acted as the Chef de Mission for the Brazilian team at the Paralympic Games and various World Championships. He has been involved with the Paralympic Movement for more than 20 years and has held various positions in the Movement during this time.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he was educated at the Fluminense Federal University, where he received his bachelor’s in Marketing and Communications." 

Andrew Parsons, present president of the International Paralympic Committee, offers a giant boost to the event as his Manila visit coincides with the habits of the federation assembly. Parsons is here to help promote the Philippine paralympic motion, which embraces the lPC vision to enable para-athletes to achieve wearing excellence and inspires and excite the world.

MICHAEL l. BARREDO 

Michael I. Barredo was born in Manila on April 2, 1955. He graduated from the De La Salle University with a BA. General Studies in 1975 and BA Philosophy and Letters in 1999.

He figured in a vehicular accident that left him visually impaired in 1979 and began his involvement with the disabled sector soon after. Sports being an integral part of his life as a former athlete then into sports administration, it has been his lifelong passion to advocate the importance of ‘Spprts for All” especially for those with a disability as it develops self-confidence, heightens self-esteem and strengthen ones competitive spirit.

He is the founding President of the National Paralympic Committee of the Philippines, former Chairman of International Blind Sports Federation (lBSA) Asia from 2002-2004, then became the IBSA World President from 2095-2013, former Commissioner of the Philippines Sports Commission (PSC), founding governing Board Member and Vice President of the Asian Paralympic Council and also a charter member of the Board of Governors of ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF). Currently, he is the President of Philippine Paralympic Committee(PPC)NPC Philippines, Chairman of the APSF Board of Governors(BOG), member of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) Executive Board as representative for the South East Asia Sub Region.

In 2013, Barredo received the Victor Ludorum, ”The Winner of the Games”, from IBSA and is a recipient of the“Paralympic Order” from International Paralympic Committee (IPC), which is the highest tribute given to individuals for their contribution in furthering the Paralympic Movement throughout the world.

The "Asian Order" was also awarded to Barredo last November 2016 during the General Assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. it is the highest order that the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) can bestow and is awarded to any person who has illustrated the APC ideals through his or her actions, has demonstrated outstanding achievement in their sport, or has given outstanding and long-lasting services to the APC; ‘4 cause.

At the prime of the agenda is an identification of the sporting activities to be performed in the 10th ASEAN Para games (APG) with a view to be held in January 2020, after the 30th Southeast Asian games with the intention to even be hosted by using the Philippines in December 2019.


A complete of 16 physical activities were performed in the 9th APG held' In Malaysia In 2017. These were Boccia, Chess, Cerebral Palsy soccer, football 5-A-aspect, Goalball, Para Archery, Para-Athletics, Para-Badminton, Para-cycling, Para Powerlifting, Para-Swimming, Para desk Tennis, Sitting Volleyball, Tenpin Bowling, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis.



Contributors within the APG incorporate athletes with physical, imaginative and prescient and mental disabilities. The ASEAN Para games are beneath the legislation of the ASEAN Para physical games Federation (APSF) even as the International Paralympic Committee (lPC) and the Asian Paralympic Committee lend technical and classification assistance when needed.

The Para games, held every two years, is most likely hosted by the country where the Southeast Asian video games are held. It is supported by the Philippine sporting events fee.

Michael Barredo, Philippine Paralympic Committee President, mentioned the June meeting in Manila will set the preparations for the ASEAN Para games in motion and Parsons presence here on a visit will raise efforts presently underway for the approaching Para games. That is the 2d time that the Philippines is web hosting the ASEAN Para games considering that 2005.

Overseas Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, who is ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee Chairman, announced that the games shall be held in three separate hubs placed in Metro Manila, Clark and Subic. International physical activities tricky is now under the building in Clark where a 20,000-seat stadium is rising. An aquatic core that meets Olympic standards can be within the works.
