MDPPA Launches ‘No to Counterfeit’ Campaign to Protect Motorcycle Riders

“In today's fast-paced market, the ability to identify products accurately and efficiently is no longer just a technical requirement, but a competitive necessity. Whether it's ensuring regulatory compliance, preventing counterfeiting, or streamlining the supply chain, the methods we use to identify products form the very foundation of our success." ~Engr. As the Philippines' motorcycle industry continues to grow, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) is intensifying its efforts to stop the proliferation of counterfeit parts. In an attempt to raise public awareness of the dangers of counterfeit motorcycle components, MDPPA recently launched the "No to Counterfeit" campaign in partnership with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

The successful Product and Branding Seminar, which was hosted at the IPOPHIL headquarters on November 4, 2025, and taught participants from MDPPA member companies how to recognize counterfeit components, precedes the launch of the campaign. Beyond technical know-how, the campaign's main goal is to empower riders, mechanics, and dealers to report counterfeit activity and make informed choices.

"Every day, motorcycle users are exposed to the risk of buying counterfeit motorcycle aftermarket products. In fact, just in December last year, the National Bureau of Investigation, a member of the National Committee of Intellectual Property Rights, seized counterfeit motorcycle parts valued at P12 million during a raid in Bulacan. Despite the continued efforts of our law enforcement agencies, we recognize that there are still widely accessible counterfeit motorcycle parts and accessories in the market, whether online or offline. Thus, we reaffirm our commitment to always support MDPPA in its initiatives such as this to empower our law enforcement agents by capacitating them with technical knowledge that only brand owners can provide to effectively fulfill their duties." ~Atty. Christine Pangilinan-Canlapan, IPOPHL's IP Enforcement Office Supervising Director

This immediately advances MDPPA's beloved Tropang MAALAM mission by warning riders that counterfeit items are not just of low quality but also harmful. By choosing non-negotiable protection, safety, and assured quality over counterfeit parts, we empower every rider to be a maalam (intelligent) client.

Counterfeit parts put riders and businesses at risk for malfunctions that might be fatal. Choosing genuine parts ensures dependable performance, safety, and long-term cost savings. MDPPA's "No to Counterfeit" campaign encourages riders to be vigilant and report dubious vendors or counterfeit parts, making the motorcycle industry safer and more accountable for everybody.
