Mortuary service provider secures seamless operations with BDO

"We're excited to streamline our processes with the help of BDO and reduce incidents of theft. With payroll being distributed manually across our branches, there's always the risk of ‘ghost employees’, fictitious names or padded employee accounts. With our payroll being coursed through BDO, there's no more chance for the payroll to be manipulated. Everything is verified and secure. When it comes to payroll, building trust is a challenge, especially with a growing workforce. By automating our payroll process, we can confidently expand our business even to more distant locations, knowing that inflow and outflow of funds are monitored securely. Our employees still have no bank account of their own. Once you have money in your hand, you'll be compelled to spend. It's different if it's saved in a bank. Our employees will learn how to save their money. We used to do multiple steps to process checks, resulting in overdue payments. With BDO’s system, there's an acknowledgement receipt and filtering mechanisms, making monitoring, revisions, and check reconciliations much easier—even remotely." ~Ancel Brillantes, Vice President of the funeral home
Helping businesses thrive. Grace R. Caguioa, BDO Unibank First Vice President and Head of its Transaction Banking Group CMS-SME Segment, explains to SMEs attending the Usapang Negosyo Forum how the right tools can make payments easier and receipt of payments faster so they can focus more on growing their business.

The funerary industry has always been familiar to siblings Angel and Ancel Brillantes.  Since the 1970s, they have grown up with their father's business and have never avoided its reality.  They are still led by Angel B. Brillantes Jr. today.  One of Davao's mortuary service companies is Funeral Homes, Inc.

The Brillantes siblings recently heard about the advantages of Cash Management Services (CMS) for businesses at the BDO Unibank-hosted SME Forum.  They are now prepared to eliminate inefficiencies from their operations, including the dangers of managing payroll by hand, thanks to the alternatives that were addressed during the event.

CMS for a secure and streamlined payroll process. Ancel Brillantes and Angel Brillantes III (seated) mark the adoption of BDO’s cash management services (CMS) into the payroll system of Angel B. Brillantes Jr. Funeral Homes.

The Brillantes siblings and other business owners witnessed firsthand how BDO's SME package, which includes automated payroll processing, check writing and disbursement, and Business Online Banking, can help businesses run more smoothly during the Usapang Negosyo SME Forum at the Davao Convention and Trade Center.

The funeral home paid staff manually by placing cash in envelopes and distributing checks across its branches—a laborious two-day procedure—before implementing BDO's payroll service.

Moreover, by allowing its employees to open personal bank accounts for their payroll, BDO is fostering financial literacy and saving habits.

Beyond payroll, the Brilliantes siblings are also able to simplify their check disbursement. The company can now complete its check releasing process at the end of the month even if the siblings are away from the office.

BDO Network Bank brings simple, practical banking closer to communities

“Before, I had to travel for hours just to deposit our earnings. Now, BDO Network Bank sends someone to our store. That saves me time and allows me to focus on growing the business.” ~Ohnello Nohara, Owner of General Merchandise Store

Ohnello Nohara and his spouse own a bustling general merchandise store in the island village of Dapa, Siargao.  From groceries to car supplies, what started as a little stand has developed into one of the neighborhood's favorite stores.  Their bank's deposit pick-up service is a silent game-changer that has contributed to their ongoing success.

With the aid of BDO Network Bank's deposit pick-up service, Dapa, Siargao entrepreneur Ohnello Nohara runs a successful general merchandise store, freeing up time to concentrate on expanding his company.  Catherine Agacite tells a separate but recognizable tale from a few towns away.

She used to be a single mother and the only provider for her family, relying on high-interest daily loans from unofficial lenders.  After she obtained a business loan from BDO Network Bank, things started to improve.  Her little fruit stand grew into two successful branches with a third on the way thanks to the financing.

“Repayments are automatically deducted from my account. It’s one less thing to worry about while running the business.” ~Catherine Agacite, a Siargao Small Business Owner and Single Mother

With a business loan from BDO Network Bank, Catherine Agacite, a Siargao small business owner and single mother, increased the size of her fruit stand.  She currently manages several stalls and keeps increasing her revenue in a sustainable manner.

Stories like Catherine's and Ohnello's show how banking may improve local livelihoods when it becomes more approachable and intimate.

The community banking division of BDO Unibank, BDO Network Bank (BDONB), keeps providing useful banking services to underprivileged populations, especially in remote locations where access is still difficult.

With more than 500 branches and loan offices across the country, each one provides services catered to the particular requirements of the area.  In order to provide clients with reasonable coverage that includes daily cash compensation during hospital confinement, the bank also offers micro-insurance for as little as P500 per year.

BDO Network Bank maintains a grounded, inclusive, and current attitude in everything from P100 beginning savings accounts to non-collateral loans for small company owners.  In order to assist clients with depositing wages and obtaining support without having to leave their place of employment, field officers frequently visit markets and stores.

The BDO Network Bank Mini Fiesta is a community event that brings banking closer to Filipinos in remote communities by combining games, entertainment, and financial education.

Additionally, the bank hosts community events like its "Mini Fiesta," which combines games, entertainment, and financial education.  To assist regular Filipinos in opening their first savings accounts and starting their financial journey, these events are frequently hosted at town squares, barangay halls, schools, and marketplaces.

A provincial town branch of BDO Network Bank, one of more than 500 branches and loan offices around the country, provides financial services to underserved populations.

BDO Network Bank plans to expand its reach and impact with its recently obtained thrift bank license, particularly in areas that are still underserved by traditional financial institutions.

Banking is now easier, more accessible, and more personal for Ohnello, Catherine, and thousands of other people. It is no longer remote or difficult.

Vista Land Communities Celebrate Easter with Joy and a Hope for Fresh Starts as They Enter the Season of Summerscapes

Vista Land’s Easter Quest gathered homeowners, investors, and their families in a fun-filled day of fresh starts, mutual discovery, and meaningful connections in Davao City.

Building on the excitement and warmth of summer, Vista Land's main campaign for the second quarter of 2025, Summerscapes, welcomes families to enter.  The topic perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the warmest season—its sense of liberation, its capacity for renewal, and its capacity to unite people.  This beautiful time frame, which reflects Filipino customs and goals, includes Mother's Day, Easter, and numerous other family milestones.

Summerscapes invites you to dream, stop, and take action—to start down the path to a more joyful, purposeful way of living.  Vista Land is aware that summer is a time to think about new chapters, invest in enduring legacies, and reflect on ambitions.  By creating communities that enable homeowners to live their best lives, the company, which is the nation's top integrated property developer, keeps promoting this goal.

Summerscapes, which is centered around themes of joy, leisure, and thankfulness, serves as a reminder that each season has the capacity to transform lives.  Vista Land supports every Filipino journey with exquisitely designed spaces and lifestyle-enriching services, whether it's choosing a lifelong home, strengthening relationships with loved ones, or just enjoying every moment of life.

In a burst of color, laughter, and adventure, Vista Land  brought Easter to life in the Queen City of the South.

Vista Land will keep introducing innovative products that capture the spirit and promise of summer as it develops. Bringing the islands' Easter to life  Vista Land brought Easter to life throughout its residential properties around the country in a riot of color, laughter, and adventure.

A fun-filled day of new beginnings, mutual discovery, and deep connections brought together homebuyers, business partners, and their families for Easter Quest.  Participants in The Hunt for Five Golden Eggs, an obstacle course that tested their cunning, agility, and inventiveness, came from communities throughout Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.  They found a valuable golden egg at each interactive stop, and each discovery lead them to the next task.  The neighborhood's Easter Quest champion was the first person to finish every step and successfully solve all the puzzles.

Hoppy Tails: The Easter Pet Parade brought four-legged friends into the spotlight, giving the celebration a sweet twist.  Alongside locals dressed in Easter-themed attire, pets of all sizes and shapes paraded, competing for prizes including Best Costume, Cutest Pet, and Most Creative Entry, as well as mementos and souvenirs.  In addition to fostering a sense of community and belonging, this inclusion demonstrated how Vista Land's pet-friendly policies help create more contented and complete communities.

The Easter event in Ilocos captures the essence of the warmest time of the year—its sense of freedom, its power to renew, and its ability to bring people together.

Camella, the main brand, took the festivities online by hosting an Egg Hunt on its official website and Facebook page.  The task, which aimed to engage prospective homebuyers online, required participants to identify Easter eggs deftly concealed in neighborhood photos.  Hotel gift coupons for two-night stays with buffet breakfast were given to the two fortunate participants who discovered the most Easter eggs.  The endeavor demonstrated the Philippines' top homebuilder's continued dedication to using technology to provide captivating, cost-effective experiences that appeal to astute homebuyers.

Vista Land uses the Easter Quest to remind us of an important reality: creating a future is an adventure that is best started in a place that feels like home and is best shared with loved ones.  It was a cheerful, hopeful, and communal celebration of Easter and life in general.

An investment into a better way of living
Vista Land, the holding company of Vista Group's residential operations, focuses on building vertical dwellings, master-planned communities, and horizontal assets in the Philippines' major growing zones.  This guiding principle has been essential to Vista Land's daily operations and is the key to its success: Filipinos deserve the best.

The conglomerate's ongoing development has always been driven by the goal of providing its stakeholders with exceptional long-term investment growth and better, expanded, and globally focused offerings and experiences for its citizens.

In June 2025, the Premier Beauty B2B Trade Show (formerly PhilBeauty Expo) will return as Cosmobeauté Philippines

"I am excited for the opportunities that Cosmobeauté Philippines will bring as it redefines the beauty trade landscape in the Philippines. This is not just a beauty show or showcasing products, but it’s all about fostering meaningful connections, sharing innovations and empowering industry professionals. Cosmobeauté Philippines is set to be a premier beauty event that would enhance your trade show experience. The goal is to contribute to the exponential growth of the promising beauty industry in the Philippines, one of the most active nations across Southeast Asia that gives high regards to the beauty sector.” ~Rungphech 'Rose' Chitanuwat, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Philippines

Cosmobeauté Philippines 2025 is the first and only B2B trade show covering beauty, cosmetics, health and wellness, and personal care industries in the Philippines.

The premier B2B beauty trade show in the Philippines will take place at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City from June 4–6, 2025, following the successful rebranding of Informa Markets Philippines’ notorious Philbeauty Expo under the new name Cosmobeauté Philippines in June 2024.  Cosmoprof Asia, the premier business-to-business gathering for the beauty industry in the Asia-Pacific area, powers Cosmobeauté Philippines.

Cosmobeauté Philippines aspires to become a larger and more comprehensive business-to-business (B2B) platform for business professionals, manufacturers and suppliers, and industry stakeholders across the nation's beauty, personal care, and health and wellness sectors with a strong brand backup and market positioning.

It is anticipated that up to 7,000 people, including a large number of experts and high-quality trade buyers, would attend the event, which will include 250 exhibiting brands and firms from 20 different countries.

The Future in the Philippines’ Beauty and Personal Care Industries

According to the IMARC Group, the Philippines' beauty and personal care sectors generated an astounding USD 3.7 billion (about PHP 350.35 billion) in 2024.  According to projections, this market has enormous potential for growth and innovation, with the potential to reach USD 11.05 billion (about PHP 607.75 billion) in the upcoming years.

Unquestionably, the market for skincare and cosmetics is expanding due to a number of factors, including rising consumer knowledge, shifting tastes in beauty, and the expanding impact of social media.  The market is growing as a result of consumers' growing desire for creative, high-quality solutions that meet their individual requirements.

The Chamber of Cosmetics Industry of the Philippines, Inc. (CCIP) estimated the cosmetics industry to be worth about USD 4 billion (approximately PHP 220 billion) annually in 2022.

Government Support

In the meantime, the Philippine government, in particular the Department of Trade and Industry, has reaffirmed its steadfast determination to support the billion-peso local beauty industry going forward, especially the MSMEs that produce the goods and services that support the industry.

Acting Secretary Cristine Roque of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) stated that the agency is more focused on expanding the channels available to MSMEs so that they can showcase their goods and services to more discerning consumers in the Philippines who are interested in personal care, wellness, and beauty products, as well as likely in targeted markets in Southeast Asia.

As DTI seeks to participate in trade exhibitions that showcase businesses in the beauty industry, this project offers chances for cooperation and creativity.  It emphasizes how important Cosmobeauté Philippines is as a forum for business professionals to exchange ideas, investigate new projects, and capitalize on the rising demand for innovative beauty products.  The goal of this collaboration is to boost economic expansion, especially in the beauty sector.

The Cosmobeauté Philippines 2025: The Philippines' Premier Beauty Trade Show will run from June 4 to 6, 2025 at the World Trade Center Manila. Community Steps Up for Water with "Taralets Para Sa Tubig" Fun Run

“What we work hard for is to ensure that we deliver safe, potable, and affordable water from source to tap. And that’s what we’re all here for today: to commit together that we will conserve water together for a water-secure nation,” Ong said. “I’m also happy to announce that I commit, as Chairman of LWUA, to donate a rainwater catchment facility to the La Mesa Ecopark because of your immense support.” ~Ronnie L. Ong, LWUA Chairman
Participants of Taralets para sa Tubig! pledging their commitment for a water secure nation

On April 27, 2025, more than 500 people came to La Mesa Ecopark for "Taralets Para sa Tubig!," demonstrating the strength of community. In honor of World Earth Day 2025, the Philippine Association of Water Districts (PAWD) and the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) are hosting a fun run and nature walk.

"Taralets Para sa Tubig!"raised awareness of the nation's most important resource—water—by bringing together local water district employees and suppliers, diplomats, executives, and families to run side by side in 1.5K, 3K, and 5K races. It was a meaningful expression of collective action for water conservation and environmental sustainability. At the heart of the event was a shared message: "Let’s create ripples of action that flow forward for a water-secure nation."

LWUA Chairman Ronnie L. Ong, who also personally joined the runners, underlined the government's strong commitment to securing sustainable water access for future generations, while PAWD President Salvador "Budz" Royeca led the call for unity throughout the nation's water districts.  Mr. Jocot de Dios, the president and chief executive officer of Manila Water, a powerful business sector partner in the water sustainability movement, was also in attendance; H.E.  Spanish Ambassador Miguel Utray with H.E. Singapore's ambassador, Constance See, showed her diplomatic and personal support for community-driven climate action by running the 3K with her family.

Newscaster and WeKenRun member Migs Bustos joined the 5KM fun run

The La Mesa Ecopark (LME), is an environmental haven located in Quezon City which fosters a rich biodiversity and offers experiential learning on environmental conservation and protection

In order to better understand the significance of preserving natural watersheds like La Mesa, which provide pure water to millions of people in Metro Manila, dignitaries and distinguished visitors were given a guided ecological tour of La Mesa Ecopark following the run.

In his message during the opening program, LWUA Chairman Ronnie L. Ong emphasized the role of unity and personal commitment in water conservation.

Participants signed a "Commitment Wall" after crossing the finish line, signifying their individual commitment to become advocates for sustainability and water conservation in their homes and communities.  The names and words written on the wall served as a tangible reminder of the strength of group effort.

As the community came together with families and coworkers, connecting around a common cause, the event created a very inclusive and hopeful atmosphere. Budz Royeca, president of PAWD, thanked the attendees and partners for helping to make the event a success.

“This event shows that when the government, private sector, and the public join forces, we can create real impact. We are grateful for the overwhelming support of our communities and partners.” ~Budz Royeca, PAWD President

The race was smoothly managed by WeKenRun, led by Coach Ken Mendola, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for all participants. Runners received commemorative finisher medals, reusable race kits, and a renewed sense of purpose. “Taralets Para sa Tubig!” proved that every step counts when taken together toward a water-secure, environmentally responsible, and united nation.

Devoted workers from PCPPI's plants around the country, known as Bravehearts, took part in Earth Hour in March by turning off non-essential lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.  An average Filipino household could have been powered for more than a week thanks to the 117.11 kWh of energy savings that came from this symbolic act of solidarity with the environment across all of its facilities.

Capturing the active participation in this global movement is the breakdown of energy savings achieved by various PCPPI plants: Sto. Tomas (22.81 kWh), Naga (2.98 kWh), San Fernando (9.32 kWh), Rosario (22.98 kWh), Cebu (9.98 kWh), Bacolod (4.00 kWh), Iloilo (19.27 kWh), Tanauan (8.48 kWh), Davao (8.15 kWh), Cagayan de Oro (6.70 kWh), and Zamboanga (2.44 kWh).

The company's larger aim to care for the world and global environmental goals are in line with PCPPI's expanding sustainability agenda, of which this effort is one of several.  Throughout its operations, PCPPI has continuously implemented initiatives centered on energy efficiency, solid waste management, and water stewardship.

Looking ahead, PCPPI is planning to introduce even more eco-friendly measures throughout 2025.

PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the Philippines, with products such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, 7Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Sting, Tropicana, Lipton Iced Tea, Milkis, Chum Churum, Saero and Premier. Tagbilaran City Introduces a State-of-the-Art Emergency Response System, Leading Bohol's Safety and Tourism Development

“We are expecting foreign tourist arrival to swell for our upcoming and famous celebration, the Saulog Festival on April 27 that will be highlighted by colorful street dancing and a ritual showdown competition. It is only fitting for Tagbilaran to welcome all its visitors and its residents into a city that can give them peace of mind because it can assure an efficient emergency response when needed, ensuring their safety is a priority for me. A well-coordinated and effective emergency response builds public confidence in what local authorities can do in the face of emergencies and calls for help. It is our duty to protect our constituents and all who visit our City. Peace and order and protection, these are the cornerstones of public service. ~Mayor Jane Yap, Tagbilaran City Mayor

Bohol Island's capital, Tagbilaran City, also known as Friendship City and a popular tourist destination in the south, is now proud to be the "First City" in the province to use cutting-edge technology to transform its emergency response capabilities.

Using a contemporary emergency communication system modeled after and based in the United States, Tagbilaran community Mayor Jane Yap broke the good news of the 911 Emergency Hotline's activation for her community on April 25.

According to Mayor Yap, the port city, which is a major entry point for both passengers and freight, receives a significant number of visitors from Manila and other southern locations.  According to recent statistics, under her direction, Tagbilaran City has experienced steady annual tourism growth of about 30% for the last three years, and its historical monuments, beaches, and natural features have made it a popular travel destination.

The Mayor and the City Council decided to upgrade Tagbilaran's emergency response system because they wanted to offer top-notch public safety to both residents and visitors.  Additionally, it was a direct answer to the request made by Juanito Victor Remulla, Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, that all local government entities strive toward a single emergency response system.

Mayor Yap commended the current administration and the DILG for their vision and sincere efforts to enhance public safety around the country.  According to her, a single emergency response system will enhance coordination and communication, expedite decision-making, facilitate resource allocation, avoid effort duplication, lessen confusion, and provide emergency callers the quick response and easy access they need.

Now, Tagbilaran's emergency response command center can locate callers quickly and accurately, record all calls, interact with other systems and communication devices flawlessly, and guarantee nearly simultaneous, prompt arrival at the disaster scene.  With its ability to interact with CCTV systems, employ data-driven analytics, detect and minimize spoof calls, and now be available through popular social media apps like Facebook and Messenger, "911" in Tagbilaran will be readily available, dependable, and simple for everyone to use.

This is a game changer for our City, studies show the safety of cities directly affects GDP. Safe cities attract more tourists and business investments. Our administration will continue to attack and reduce the crime rate in Tagbilaran. We will not stop until Tagbilaran becomes one of the safest cities in the Philippines.

This gave the global and local street dancers a rare opportunity to come together and help elevate street dance in Asia. Japanese Hip-Hop dancer and 2022 Red Bull Dance Your Style World Champion THE D Soraki, as well as Korean Waacking queen and 2024 Red Bull Dance Your Style Korea National Finalist Yoon Ji joined MT Pop for the Manila stop of the tour.

“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve really been wanting to come to the Philippines, and a lot of dancers from here have been messaging me to ask when I will come here. Finally, I’m in the Philippines and I’m really happy to be here. Immediately, everybody has given us such a warm welcome and shown us a lot of love. I’m from Vietnam, and I’m happy to get a chance to spotlight great dancers from Southeast Asia and share the stage with them. Just keep going. Keep learning. Everybody has had (their share of) difficulties, but for me what’s important is that when we love it, we do it. Dream it. Wish it. And, do it. The final battle was really fire. And with everybody vibing here, with good music, it really was the perfect night. ~MT Pop

For MT Pop, the chance to encounter dancers in Southeast Asia is the most important thing about the Red Bull Dance Your Style Asia Tour.

The global dancers were also in attendance during the Red Bull Dance Your Style Manila Qualifier.
