AirAsia Philippines reiterates no Vaping/Smoking Policy Onboard

“At AirAsia, every flight is anchored on safety, ensuring our guests will get to their destination safely and conveniently. Triggering a smoke detector can cause panic, unnecessary inconvenience and disrupt operations. Also, malfunctioning vaping devices may pose risk inside the cabin. While our team is highly trained in dealing with various situations on ground and in flight, we count on our guests’ cooperation and commitment in making sure safety is never compromised.” ~First Officer Steve F. Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs
A surrendered vape handed over to the Airport Police Department after the violator was caught vaping onboard.

Following recent instances where passengers were discovered in violation of the rules, AirAsia Philippines has strongly reminded all of its passengers that smoking and vaping are completely forbidden on all of its flights.

From January to August 2025, the airline's Security Department documented 10 instances of passengers caught vaping in flight, either in their seats or in restrooms that set off smoke detectors, despite the airline's proactive efforts to issue numerous placarded advisories and public announcements.

AirAsia warns visitors that such behavior is absolutely prohibited by AirAsia Philippines' published airline regulations and is prohibited by Republic Acts No. 9211 (Tobacco Regulation Act) and No. 11900 (Vape Regulation Act), all of which forbid vaping in public transportation, including airplanes.

Upon reaching their destination, guests who are caught vaping face immediate referral to airport police, blotter entry, and a fine of up to ₱5,000, depending on the offense. If safety is compromised, they may also face charges under the Civil Aviation Authority Act (RA 9497), as well as administrative sanctions from the airline, which could include a lifetime ban from all AirAsia Philippines flights.

AirAsia keeps a clear and uniform no-smoking policy from the boarding gate to the aircraft cabin in order to avoid such events.  Pre-flight announcements, LED signage throughout the flight, and boarding cards all prominently convey these reminders.

Tamper-proof smoke detectors are installed in the restrooms, and cabin staff keep a close eye on passenger behavior to ensure prompt action when needed.

AirAsia Philippines Now Serving Taipei with 17 Flights a Week

“The additional flights come at the perfect time as we enter Q3 and gear up for the peak travel season. This move gets us ready for the expected surge in demand during the ‘Ber’ months, when many Filipinos head to Taipei to enjoy its cooler climate from September through February. It also allows us to serve our guests better by offering more options and flexibility whether they’re flying for leisure, business, or to reconnect with family and friends.” ~Suresh Bangah, AirAsia Philippines President and CEO

Beginning in July, AirAsia Philippines increased the number of weekly flights to Taiwan's capital from 14 to 17 in response to the increasing demand for travel between Manila and Taipei.

From January to June 2025 alone, the airline flew over 70,000 visitors to Taipei which is likely to increase following the extension of visa-free entrance for Filipino travelers who are staying for 14 days to Taiwan until July 31, 2026.

AirAsia Philippines deepens stakeholder ties in Eastern Visayas (Tacloban)

“Leyte holds a special place in the heart of AirAsia. Our partnership stood the test of time, especially during the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda and the rebuilding efforts that ensued after. And the commitment of ensuring affordable fares for the Eastern Visayas region has never waned. We know how purposeful each journey is for every Leyteno. With the ongoing repair of San Juanico Bridge, our stakeholders can always count on us to consistently provide reasonably low fares, allowing everyone to experience the airline's continued legacy as the global gold standard in low-cost travel.” ~Suresh Bangah, AirAsia Philippines President and CEO

In order to promote tourism and economic development in the Eastern Visayas Region, AirAsia Philippines and the Provincial Government of Leyte reaffirmed their long-standing commitment to democratizing air travel and guaranteeing connectivity.

As part of the airline's continued cooperation with stakeholders, Leyte Gov. Jericho Petilla, Leyte Tourism Consultant Frances Ann Petilla, and other officials extended a warm welcome to AirAsia in the Provincial Capitol together with the media.

Offering secure, dependable, and reasonably priced travel alternatives in the area, AirAsia has transported millions of passengers to Tacloban since 2009.  At the moment, it flies to Tacloban 28 times a week.

Recently, AirAsia was recognized by Skytrax as the world's finest low-cost airline for the sixteenth consecutive year. To celebrate this achievement, the airline offers special rates starting at ₱516 for one-way flights to and from Tacloban.  Launched in early 2025, this is the eleventh big seat sale.

"Leyte is a destination. Not so many people know it, but it is a destination. We have many other destinations aside from kalamgaman, and we want them to be as visible as kalamgaman. And we want to thank AirAsia, sabi ko nga two way ito eh, it is our intent to make ourselves visible to tourist so that there will be an increased flights later by AirAsia. We may not have the ideal tourist destinations that we have right now, but by the time we finish our plans, ang tanong ko parati, which airline we do actually partner with when we're actually ready? And right now, I will tell you that it is only AirAsia, I consider a partner.” ~Jericho Petilla, Leyte Governor

Book now until July 3, 2025, and #SeeyouLeyte for travels between July 2, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

"Hindi namin malilimutan nung panahon ng Yolanda kung paano kami tinulungan ng AirAsia. They were the first airline to offer seats. Imagine, they sent 2 aicraft to help us for humanitatian mission. It allowed us to ferry people out of Tacloban so they can also find work in Manila and feed their families while rebuilding is underway.” ~Anne Petilla, Leyte Tourism Consultant

AirAsia was among the first commercial airlines to react to the needs of those affected by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) during its fury.  For victims and their loved ones looking for lost family members, it provided 250,000 seats at no cost.  In order to construct homes in Tacloban, AirAsia was able to raise about one hundred million pesos through the AirAsia Foundation.

In the first half of 2025, AirAsia Philippines records an 85% load factor and welcomes 3 million passengers

“We’re proud to have started the year strong with an 85% load factor, 80% of which comprises domestic travelers. This strong performance signals positive growth for local tourism. We remain focused on supporting this through initiatives like the AirAsia Fiesta Series and and promotional campaigns tied to local festivals, encouraging Filipinos to explore and take part in the cultural festivities across the country, alongside our usual double-digit and P1SO sales.” ~First Officer Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Communications and Corporate Affairs Head

AirAsia Philippines is pleased to announce that it has served around 3 million passengers on its local and international network so far in the first half of 2025.

With Taipei as the top international option and Puerto Princesa as the top domestic destination, the airline also recorded a great load factor performance of 85%.

AirAsia has boosted flight frequency on a number of important routes in an effort to maintain the current momentum in international travel. The frequency of flights to Kota Kinabalu has been upgraded from three times per week to seven times per week. Additionally, flights to Taipei will rise from 14 to 17 times each week starting on July 1.  Both business and leisure travelers will benefit from these changes, which are intended to improve connectivity and provide more flexibility.

As part of its commitment to reinvigorate  travel among Filipinos, AirAsia recently launched over 400,000 promo seats to boost travel during the late summer and off-peak seasons.

From now until June 1, 2025, travelers can book one-way base fares for as low as PHP 185 to favorite island destinations including Boracay (via Caticlan), Kalibo, Bohol (Tagbilaran), and Puerto Princesa. The travel period runs from May 5 to October 31, 2025, perfect for spontaneous getaways or early planning for less crowded adventures.
