Yuchengco Museum Supports Local Artisans and Contemporary Creatives, Transforming the Museum Shop into a Platform for Artistic Livelihoods

YShop, the retail branch of the Yuchengco Museum, is happy to showcase its most recent carefully curated exhibit, which features an amazing assortment of local artists and distinctive goods. YShop is a vital retail space and marketing platform that sustains the livelihoods of contemporary artists and promotes the creative industries. It is much more than just a gift shop. By exposing museum visitors to the stories and products of local producers, YShop ensures that every purchase contributes significantly to the local creative ecosystem.

Bernie Bacosa's moving photos, a special collection honoring the famous painter Jaime de Guzman, practical home goods with Sandra Gomez's marine photography, and an exclusive exhibition by design company Angkan World will all be on show throughout June.

The focal point of the museum's retail exhibits is photographer Bernie Bacosa's moving photobook and exhibition, Nakita sa Makati (Seen at the Ebb). On display at the RCBC through June 2026 and at the YShop from May to June 2026.

Plaza Galleria's collection explores the "ebb" as a human condition. By portraying the ebb as a time when resources are stretched and what is essential subtly emerges rather than as a specific location, Bacosa deftly conveys the tenacity, humor, and elegance of everyday people in neglected metropolitan areas.

Bacosa, who was born and raised in Palawan, transitioned to full-time photography in 2009 following an impressive career in corporate planning and project development. Before developing his skills through seminars with Magnum Photos, he produced the well-known photobook Ating Ultimo Adios. The invisible, everyday processes of Metro Manila life remain intimately and profoundly connected to his most recent work. The Jaime de Guzman Collection: Honoring a Master.

In honor of the painter's lasting legacy, YShop is offering a unique assortment of goods that highlight Jaime de Guzman's artistic abilities. Saul HofileƱa, Jr.'s intriguing book, The Enigma of Jaime de Guzman: Collected Works of the Painter of the Mystic Mountain, is available for purchase. Along with images of the artwork on display, it offers insightful commentary.

In order to bring some of this artistic heritage into the home, the collection also includes handcrafted papier-mache dogs, which were inspired by de Guzman's own pet, Lee. These unique pieces can be customized with a classic black version or a beige paint-it-yourself version. Additionally, the business provides six various designs of anting-anting tote bags so that clients may always have a useful and fashionable emblem of protection with them.

Gifts for Conservation by Sandra Gomez

YShop further highlights the connection between everyday practical design and environmental advocacy through photographer Sandra Gomez's work. The store's vibrant lifestyle collection includes custom notepads, placemats, coasters, and pillow covers with Gomez's underwater images taken in the Pacific, Oceania, and Southeast Asian waters.

In keeping with YShop's strict commitment to ethical business practices, a percentage of each retail sale from this line directly supports the vital marine conservation efforts of the Tubbataha Reef Natural Park.

Contemporary Heritage with Angkan World

The retail experience is completed with Carol de Leon's temporary appearance on Angkan World, which will run from June 15 to June 30, 2026. This exhibit serves as a vital commercial launchpad for local design groups and offers the museum store a contemporary, heritage-inspired appearance.

By choosing these distinctive products, visitors actively contribute to the local creative economy and assist the artists who uphold and promote Filipino culture.
