Muntinlupa broadens financial assistance access for scholars with GCash Visa Card

“The City Government of Muntinlupa remains committed to making education and social assistance programs more accessible to our constituents. Through this collaboration, we are helping ensure that government support is delivered in a manner that is convenient, secure, and responsive to our constituents’ needs.” ~City Mayor Ruffy Biazon
Officials from the City Government of Muntinlupa and GCash formalize their expanded partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing, reinforcing their shared commitment to making financial assistance more accessible and convenient for scholars and beneficiaries.

The City Government of Muntinlupa and GCash have strengthened their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at making financial assistance more accessible, convenient, and flexible for scholars and other government beneficiaries.

The expanded partnership builds on the city’s existing collaboration with GCash and introduces additional ways for beneficiaries to receive and use financial assistance. Alongside digital disbursement services, eligible scholars can now access support through GCash Cards, providing another option for managing their funds.

The initiative expands the city’s Financial Disbursement System (FDS) partnership from selected scholarship programs to a wider student population. Through the broader implementation, more scholars across Muntinlupa can benefit from a more streamlined process for receiving government financial assistance through digital payouts.

As part of the expanded program, the City Government of Muntinlupa has begun providing physical GCash Cards to college beneficiaries. The first batch of cards was distributed to 180 Colegio de Muntinlupa scholars in August 2026, giving students an additional way to access their financial assistance.

The GCash Card complements the GCash app by allowing beneficiaries to access their funds through physical card transactions. Students can use the card to withdraw cash or make payments through participating card terminals, giving them greater flexibility even when they prefer not to transact directly through the mobile application.

The expanded Muntinlupa–GCash partnership forms part of the city's continuing efforts to modernize public service delivery and improve the distribution of government assistance through digital solutions.

By offering multiple disbursement options, the initiative aims to make the distribution of financial assistance more convenient and efficient while giving scholars and other beneficiaries greater flexibility in accessing and managing the support provided to them.

The partnership highlights how digital financial services can support government programs by providing beneficiaries with more accessible options for receiving and using financial assistance.

For many scholars and beneficiaries, having multiple options for accessing financial assistance can make receiving and managing government support more convenient. Through the GCash mobile app or physical GCash Card, beneficiaries have greater flexibility to access their funds according to their individual needs, preferences, and circumstances.

By providing both digital and card-based access, the initiative helps make government financial assistance more accessible and convenient, while giving scholars and other beneficiaries additional options for managing their support.

Meanwhile, GCash Head of B2B Sales, Cleo Celeste Santos, expressed gratitude for the continued trust of the City Government of Muntinlupa, noting that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to making financial assistance more accessible for scholars and beneficiaries.

“At GCash, we are honored to support the city's efforts to empower scholars and beneficiaries through digital financial solutions that provide greater convenience, flexibility, and inclusion.” ~Cleo Celeste Santos, GCash Head of B2B Sales

As the City Government of Muntinlupa continues to support education and community development, its expanded partnership with GCash demonstrates how digital financial services and physical payment cards can help improve the delivery of government assistance. By offering more accessible and convenient ways to receive financial support, the initiative provides scholars and beneficiaries with greater flexibility while supporting the city’s efforts to make public services more responsive to the needs of its communities.

Fuse Financing bridges financing gaps for millions of MSMEs nationwide

“Financial resilience is more than access to loans. Business owners need solutions that help them earn, manage, protect, and grow their income. No single organization can close the financing gap alone. By combining accessible financing, practical knowledge, and strong partnerships, we can help MSMEs build resilient businesses that create jobs, strengthen communities, and contribute to a more inclusive Philippine economy.” ~Kevin Yu, Fuse Financing Inc. Head of B2B
Fuse Financing Inc. Head of B2B Kevin Yu  highlights the importance of accessible financing for MSMEs during a series of events, including the DTI National Forum on Strengthening MSME Disaster Resilience 2026.

Limited access to formal financing remains a significant challenge for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines. While MSMEs account for 99.6% of businesses and provide employment to more than 65% of the workforce, many entrepreneurs continue to face difficulties in securing credit. Limited collateral, incomplete financial records, and the absence of credit history can prevent businesses from obtaining the funding they need to grow, expand, and contribute more meaningfully to inclusive economic development.

Kevin Yu, head of B2B at GCash lending arm Fuse Financing Inc., highlighted these challenges during a series of MSME-focused engagements, including the DTI National Forum on Strengthening MSME Disaster Resilience 2026, the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Convergence Summit on Economic Resilience, GoNegosyo MSME Summit 2026, and Inquirer ESG Connect.

Across these discussions, Yu emphasized the importance of addressing the persistent MSME financing gap through more inclusive and data-driven lending solutions that can better serve entrepreneurs, including those who may have limited access to traditional credit.

At the center of this approach is the integration of financial services within the GCash ecosystem. Through GCash for Business, entrepreneurs can accept digital payments and manage business transactions while building a digital financial footprint. The resulting alternative data can help financing providers gain better insights into business performance and make more informed and responsible credit decisions.

According to Yu, this model can help underserved entrepreneurs, including first-time formal borrowers, gain access to financing. Eligible businesses can apply through GLoan Negosyo via the GCash app, with loans of up to ₱350,000, or through the GCash for Business Portal, where qualified merchants can access financing of up to ₱2 million. These financing solutions can help entrepreneurs fund inventory purchases, support working capital requirements, and pursue business expansion plans.

Yu added that fintech serves a complementary role alongside traditional financial institutions. While digital financial platforms can improve access, speed, and convenience for entrepreneurs, banks remain an important source of financing for businesses that require larger funding as they grow and scale.

Beyond access to financing, GCash also recognizes the importance of financial education in supporting the long-term success of MSMEs. Initiatives such as the Wais Tindera Caravan bring practical financial knowledge directly to local communities, helping entrepreneurs make informed business decisions, manage cash flow more effectively, and become more confident in using digital financial tools.

Responsible lending is likewise a key principle of Fuse Financing. The company’s fully digital collections process follows a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, reinforcing its commitment to fair and respectful treatment of borrowers throughout their financing journey.

This focus on responsible growth is reflected in Fuse Financing’s reach. As of the second quarter of 2026, the company had disbursed ₱451 billion in loans to 11.5 million borrowers nationwide, with one in three borrowers classified as an NMSME.

For GCash and Fuse Financing, these figures represent more than business growth. They reflect an expanding number of Filipino entrepreneurs gaining access to financial tools that can help them strengthen their operations, build resilience, and pursue sustainable business growth.

GCash wins big at 2026 APAC Tambuli Awards with four purpose-driven campaign victories

"The 2026 APAC Tambuli Awards affirm that digital tools create the greatest impact when they serve a clear human purpose. At GCash, we build solutions that matter—from making daily commutes easier and supporting neighborhood stores to promoting accountability and inclusion." ~Neil Trinidad, GCash's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
GCash bags four accolades from the recent APAC Tambuli Awards 2026

The largest cashless ecosystem and leading finance superapp in the Philippines, GCash, won four major awards at the 2026 APAC Tambuli Awards for campaigns that yielded measurable results in public transportation, civic accountability, and grassroots financial access.

The APAC Tambuli Awards, presented by the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), recognize businesses that demonstrate both significant social impact and commercial growth. Unlike awards that solely take into account marketing metrics, the Tambuli looks at programs that advance corporate purpose and human development. The 2026 edition focused on using digital transformation to address systemic gaps in society.

GCash was awarded a Gold Tambuli under Champions for Humanity: Building Character (Digital and Social Media) for its #MineAngBotoKo campaign. GCash challenged the culture of vote-buying by transforming the popular social media live-selling format into a pointed call for voter accountability in partnership with independent media and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). It has strengthened in-app security monitoring and tightened transaction guardrails during critical civic windows to prevent financial abuse related to election periods.

A Silver Tambuli under Masters of Everyday Purpose: Delivering Brand Promise (Integrated) was given to the Commute Fast Lane initiative, a partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) that integrated cashless payment options at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 to make daily commutes seamless. GCash plans to expand this digital payment system to more major transit networks across the Philippines.

The fintech leader also received two Bronze Tambuli awards for community-based initiatives. Known for its branded experience and activation, "Sachet Loans" introduced a nano-financing model that allows users to borrow small amounts between ₱100 and ₱300, providing a safe alternative to informal lending.

"Wais Tindera," who was known for encouraging inclusive growth, directly introduced financial literacy to communities through a nationwide caravan. The program provides digital tools and cash management strategies to sari-sari store owners.

In addition to these accolades, GCash's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Neil Trinidad, expanded on his 2021 CMO of the Year award by being named one of the CMOs of the Decade.

When considered collectively, the four Tambuli successes demonstrate how GCash has created campaigns that affect not just the app but also local commerce, public transportation, civic life, and financial literacy. The main goal of all initiatives is to make digital finance available to all Filipinos, regardless of their income or location.

Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and GCash support livelihood opportunities for returning OFWs

“We are pleased to welcome another valued partner in advancing our financial literacy initiatives. Now more than ever, it is essential that Filipinos overseas are provided with wider support and education on digital savings, responsible investment practices, and overall financial wellness.” ~Dante Ang II, CFO Chairperson
(L-R) GCash Head of International Transfers Julie Anne Abalos; Chief Regulatory Officer Cef Sison; GCash International General Manager Arjun Varma; Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Chairperson Dante Ang II; Executive Director V Arlene Borja; and Supervising Emigrant Services Officer Janet Ramos.

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) has partnered with GCash, the country's top finance super app and largest cashless ecosystem, to better support Filipinos living overseas and returning migrants, particularly those who return home without a stable source of income.

Due to their limited access to financial management skills, coordinated reintegration assistance, and sustainable income possibilities, returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) often face financial instability after their employment overseas ends. The alliance seeks to bridge these gaps by creating a more accessible and effective support system.

By integrating CFO's operations into the GCash digital ecosystem, the alliance provides returning migrants with simple access to financial services, business opportunities, and essential reintegration initiatives. Additionally, the partnership will speed up government transactions by opening up new digital payment channels for CFO services.

As part of the project, a unique migrant marketplace will be developed within the GCash app, enabling returning Filipinos to explore small business opportunities and other sources of income.

CFO Chairperson Dante Ang II added that the partnership enhances the organization's goal of helping Filipinos both domestically and overseas.

The endeavor is expected to enhance government support delivery for returning migrants through both digital and physical channels, in addition to bolstering financial capacities, increasing income-generating possibilities, and boosting access to reintegration programs.

The partnership shows GCash's continued commitment to financial inclusion, according to Julie Ann Abalos, GCash's head of foreign transfers.

"More than just a formal agreement, this is a shared promise that wherever Filipinos may be in the world, they have a trusted partner in helping them progress and achieve their dreams." ~Julie Ann Abalos, GCash Head of International Transfers

The partnership will be established gradually until 2026; as efforts are completed, additional details will be made public.

Furthermore, GCash will support the commission's orientation programs and Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS), giving OFWs the knowledge and tools they need throughout their journey—from departure to eventual return and reintegration.

GCash aims to assist migrants who have already established themselves in their home countries to keep financial relationships to their families in the Philippines, in addition to supporting reintegration programs.

GCash cracks down on Online Task Scammers, intensifies anti-fraud campaign

GCash is boosting up its efforts to prevent task scams and other forms of social engineering fraud as digital scam syndicates become increasingly sophisticated across the country.

In task scams, fraudsters may pretend to be recruiters, retailers, or online platforms, offering quick money in exchange for performing simple online tasks. Later, on the pretense of higher commissions or withdrawals, victims are duped into paying money.

To help you stay safe, remember:
  • Mind the "Unsolicited" Invite: Professional recruiters typically use official platforms. Be cautious of job offers that arrive unexpectedly via email, SMS, or cold call offers.
  • Credentials Matter: Authentic employers are interested in your skills and will usually ask for a CV or a brief interview. If an offer requires "no experience" and "no resume," it’s best to verify the source.
  • Your Money Should Stay with You: Legitimate jobs pay you for your work. A major red flag is when you are asked to "top up" or “upfront payments” or make a deposit to unlock higher-tier tasks or "premium" commissions.
  • Simple Withdrawal Access: You should be able to access your earnings without hurdles. Be wary of platforms that force you to complete a specific "set" or "cycle" of tasks before allowing you to withdraw your funds.
  • Official Communication Only: Look for emails from company domains (e.g., @companyname.com). Official business is rarely conducted through generic @gmail.com or @yahoo.com addresses.
  • Keep Your Account Private: Your MPIN and One-Time Password (OTP) are your digital keys. GCash will never ask for these via call, SMS, email, or social media.
  • Your GCash account is for your personal use only: Do not let others use your GCash account for any transaction, and do not use the GCash account of other people as well.
  • Trust Your Instincts: If an offer promises unusually high pay for very little effort, it is often a sign to take a step back and investigate further.

GCash continues to strengthen its scam and fraud prevention efforts
  • Fraud Monitoring Systems & Proactive Wallet Blocking: Since 2025 to date, GCash reported closing over 3.3 million scam-linked wallets. When a user reports a scam, the receiving wallet is often part of a larger network that GCash can identify and shut down.
  • Coordination and Partnerships with Law Enforcement: GCash continues to work closely with the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other regulators to strengthen our ecosystem.

If you encounter a suspicious task offer or transaction, reporting it helps protect the whole community. You can reach out through these official channels:

Luzon Institutional Partners will spearhead the promotion of a digitally inclusive Philippines at the 2025 GCash Digital Excellence Awards

"2025 was truly a year where GCash doubled down on its commitment through partnership with the government in advancing digitalization in our country. We are moving beyond ear access to delivering world-class innovations that people use daily. We could not have reached these heights alone. Together, we have brought strengthened fiscal management, streamlined disbursements, and connections to the LGU." ~Ernest Cu, Mynt Chairman

The 5th GCash Digital Excellence Awards (GDEA), which honored national and local government agencies that are actively transforming how Filipinos can get public services more swiftly, safely, and entirely cashlessly, marked another momentous landmark for Philippine governance.

The subject for this year was "Recognizing Digital Pioneers: Empowering the Public Sector for a Modern, Inclusive Philippines." Of the 45 honorees countrywide, 32 were from Luzon, indicating the region's growing commitment to financial modernization and digital governance. The Grand Hyatt Manila in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, hosted the event.

Thanks to GCash's digital payment infrastructure, these organizations have made significant strides in developing government services that are not only efficient but also accessible to all residents, regardless of location or circumstance.

Leading the example in the Ilocos Region, the Bauang Public Market in the Municipality of Bauang, La Union, was honored for encouraging sustainable financial digitalization across public market transactions, making cashless transactions commonplace for both customers and businesses.

Through better online service options and secure digital payment methods, the Metropolitan Tuguegarao Water District in the Cagayan Valley was acknowledged for improving citizen access to water-related services.

Central Luzon was a significant cluster of honorees, with the City of San Fernando in Pampanga, the City Government of Baliwag and its Baliwag Public Market in Bulacan, the Municipality of Morong, and the Provincial Government of Bataan being the five institutions that were cited. In both urban and rural locations, these LGUs have increased the scope of their online services and put in place digital payment methods for market transactions, utilities, and municipal levies.

The Metropolitan Naga Water District was also honored for Digital Transformation Excellence in Utility Efficiency, demonstrating how utilities are utilizing digital tools to enhance service delivery. In the meantime, CALABARZON added four reputable organizations to the list: the Municipality of Tanay, the City Government of Santa Rosa in Laguna, the City Government of Imus in Cavite, and the Pililla Water District in Rizal. Each of these organizations is putting in place traceable, user-friendly digital systems that make it easier for citizens to access government services.

Luzon's beneficiaries include the Municipality of Mauban, Quezon, and its Mauban Public Market; the City of Lucena; the Provincial Government of Quezon; and Antonio L. Raymundo, Jr., President of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Bataan Chapter. They were recognized for their efforts to digitize public services across provincial municipalities and expand online payment options, bringing contemporary governance closer to the areas that most need it.

The ceremony also recognized several national government agencies for advancing digital transformation and financial inclusion in public service. The Department of Transportation's Metro Rail Transit Line 3 received the Digital Breakthrough Growth Award for expanding the usage of digital payments in commuter services. The Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Land Bank of the Philippines, and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation were selected Champions for Digital Advocacy and Connectivity in an effort to expand access to digital financial services. The Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund) was awarded the Leader in Sustainable Financial Digitalization Award for its long-standing digital initiatives, while the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Philippine Statistics Authority, and the Bureau of the Treasury were named Catalysts in Financial Inclusion for improving digital access and transparency in public financial systems. The Department of Trade and Industry also received the Excellence in Digital Transformation Award for integrating digital platforms into services that support Filipino businesses.

We are one with the government in the mission to serve every Filipino. Everything we do is anchored in our shared vision of finance for all. Every leader here tonight is a testament to the belief that no Filipino should be left behind in the digital economy." ~Cleo Santos, GCash VP and Head of Public Sector

The GDEA's award categories were designed to accommodate organizations at various phases of their digital transformation. While the Digital Breakthrough Growth Award recognized first-year adopters, the Excellence in Digital Transformation Award recognized companies that demonstrated steady growth in digital transactions between 2022 and 2025.

While awards for Digital Transformation Excellence in Healthcare, Education, and Utility Efficiency offered sector-specific recognition, the Catalyst in Financial Inclusion Award recognized programs that greatly expanded financial access for impoverished Filipinos.

Long-standing partnerships were honored with the Leader in Sustainable Financial Digitalization Award, which is only granted to companies who have collaborated with GCash for at least five years. Governments should require payment methods and cashless transactions, according to the Leader in Sustainable Financial Digitalization for Public Market. In these public markets, at least 70% of active vendors use GCash as payment from their customers.

The figures illustrate the motion. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas reports that over 97% of government-to-government and government-to-employee transactions are now completed digitally, and retail digital payments account for over 57% of all transactions in the nation.

Setting the bar for what digital transformation must achieve, Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Director General Ernesto Perez stressed that results must ultimately be felt by citizens.

"Digital excellence within government rests on tangible results experienced by individuals and enterprises. It is seen in faster transactions, simplified requirements, dependable payment channels, and platforms that reach communities regardless of geography or circumstance. Through this initiative, GCash and ARTA continue to champion the goals by promoting ease of doing business, enhancing digital payment systems, and fostering stronger collaboration between government and the private sector." ~Director General Ernesto Perez, Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA)

By putting the spotlight on Luzon's digital trailblazers, the 5th GDEA reinforces that the path to a modern, inclusive Philippines is already being built, one LGU, one transaction, and one empowered citizen at a time.

GCash extends support via cross-border transfers for Filipino nurses worldwide at PNAA Global Summit

“For many Filipino nurses, working abroad is driven by the hope of providing better lives for their families. Their everyday acts of support ripple outward, strengthening families and contributing to the broader Philippine economy.”  ~Joanne Hatulan, head of GCash Overseas
GCash Overseas head Joanne Hatulan at the PNAA Global Summit

GCash reinforced its support for Filipino nurses worldwide by sponsoring the 15th International Nursing Conference of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) and the Filipino Nurses Global Summit VI, a global event focused on education, collaboration, and a shared objective.

The two-day conference brought together Filipino nurses from the US and other countries to exchange viewpoints on the evolving healthcare landscape, pinpoint shared concerns, and spark conversations that may influence workplace customs, regulations, and policies that affect nurses worldwide. Additionally, it offered a networking opportunity, uniting nurses whose shared experiences are shaped by service, sacrifice, and being away from home.

Filipino nurses continue to battle on the front lines all around the world because of their unwavering commitment to patient care and the families they support back home. Through their employment abroad, they provide for houses, cover educational expenses, and handle daily needs. Their activities have an impact on local communities and the Philippine economy.

By enabling easy and affordable cross-border digital transfers with GCash Overseas, we make sure that their hard-earned money gets to their loved ones quickly and securely," he added.

With GCash's easier cross-border financial access, Filipinos living abroad can take care of their families and meet their daily needs even when they are far away. Fast, reliable digital transactions that help manage everyday expenses, fund education, and respond to urgent needs back home allow Filipino nurses working overseas to support their families with greater comfort and confidence.

With GCash now present in 145 countries and territories, Filipino nurses may use digital tools to communicate with their families. Nurses can provide immediate assistance by aiding with schooling, utility bills, or family situations with the aid of rapid bill payments to over 2,000 billers nationwide and limitless free padala. As seen by GCash's sponsorship of the PNAA Global Summit, Filipino nurses are frontline workers whose influence extends beyond national borders.

GCash promotes a dual-technology strategy to advance financial inclusion and cybersecurity at APSCA Next Generation Payments 2026

[L-R] APSCA Chairman Greg Pote, BPC Country Director Audrey Mae Peñaranda, BSP Payments Policy and Development Department (PPDD) Director Atty. Bridget Rose M. Mesina Romero, Deputy Director German S. Constantino, GCash General Manager and Head for Business Paul Albano, BSP-Financial Inclusion Office Deputy Director Cesar Augusto Jr. Villanueva, United Nations Development Programme 'Better than Cash Alliance' Southeast Asia Regional Lead Isvary Sivalingam, and Visa Product Management and go-to-market, QR Center of Excellence Director Vaibhav Jain.

The digital payments sector in Asia Pacific is at a turning point in its history, where it must choose between creating technologies that actually help people and chasing the next great thing. How QR and NFC technologies might be combined to increase access and fortify defenses against emerging threats is at the heart of this discussion.

Together with industry leaders, regulators, and innovators like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Visa, HSBC Holdings, EMVCo, Crunchfish, Netwrix, Paynet, Infineon Technologies, Entrust, and Fourdotzero, GCash investigated how identity and payment systems can change while still being safe, accessible, and applicable to a range of markets. This objective served as the framework for these talks at the Next Generation Payments 2026 conference of the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA).

Building for sustainable merchant inclusion

BSP PPDD Deputy Director Atty. Tricia Defante-Andres, Bank Officer V Jan Marlon Evangelista, GCash Product Innovation Head Ferdie Perez, Visa Product Management and go-to-Market, qr Center of Excellence Director Vaibhav Jain and APSCA Chairman Greg Pote.

Paul Albano, general manager and head of GCash for Business, grounded the conversation in the realities of the 9.3 million nano, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the Philippines. Of these, 1.1 million are micro merchants and 8.1 million are nano merchants, two highly promising yet highly susceptible categories.

He underlined that inclusivity cannot be achieved solely through technology. Programs like the BSP's Palengke QRPh Plus Program, partnerships with the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), and the DigiCities Program with Start-up Village, Canva, and TikTok all contribute to the sustainable growth of MSMEs.

Albano also discussed how GCash Pera Outlet+ (GPO+) is transforming sari-sari stores into community hubs where digital transactions like as cash-in, cash-out, bill payment, and load purchases are replacing traditional goods.

Market timing over technology readiness

GCash Chief Information Security Officer Miguel Geronilla, Netwrix APJ Vice President Terry Burgess, EMVCo Engagement and Operations Director Oliver Manahan, and APSCA Chairman Greg Pote.

The topic of discussion changed from inclusivity to timing. Ferdie Perez, head of product innovation at GCash, explained why the company is taking a cautious approach to NFC adoption. Ten years ago, Alipay introduced QR payments, which currently account for 60% of digital transactions in the Philippines.

But with more than 300,000 tap-to-pay terminals utilizing NFC at the moment, infrastructure, merchant education, and cost adjustments are required. Eighty to ninety percent of the country's eighty million smartphone users have NFC-capable devices.

Despite this readiness, adoption has been sluggish. NFC and QR are complementary technologies that serve different markets and needs, and Perez emphasized that effective rollouts rely on aligning implementations with market realities.

Adapting defenses to evolving threats

The conversation was concluded by security. GCash's chief information security officer, Miguel Geronilla, explained how fraud has evolved with the growth of digital payments, moving from account takeovers to more intricate social engineering.

He recalled how GCash was the first to use biometric facial verification before it became a norm in the business. When unusual patterns emerge, he described how contemporary safeguards combine behavioral analysis, transaction monitoring, and real-time friction. He underlined that no single company can handle these problems alone and voiced support for the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), which strengthens financial institutions' ability to trace and recover money across the ecosystem.

From merchant education and acceptance infrastructure to security frameworks that keep up with increasingly complex threats, the industry's ability to bridge practical gaps between capability and readiness will have a greater impact on the region's payment evolution than any single technological advancement, according to the discussions at APSCA.

The leading industry association for identification and payments in Asia, APSCA has a 25-year history of convening key decision-makers to address significant business and technological issues related to identity and payment systems.

By basing technological choices on market realities rather than ideals, GCash keeps creating payment solutions that satisfy the diverse needs of its millions of customers. This guarantees that rather than excluding particular market segments, innovation fosters financial inclusion.

GCash lending arm Fuse advances AI use to strengthen responsible collections practices and protect customer dignity

"Our partnership with Wiz.AI has already transformed how we manage high-volume collection calls, and with this renewed collaboration, we’re excited to explore new frontiers in automation. By integrating voice AI into our QA processes, we’re not only improving operational efficiency but also ensuring a more consistent and personalized customer experience. This innovation will also support our audit process to ensure our agents remain responsible, while helping us gain insights into how we can further enhance the way we serve our customers and continuously improve our service. We highly value our customers’ dignity and maintain zero tolerance for harassment or abusive practices.” ~Tony Isidro, President and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc.
(L-R) Wiz.Ai Chief Operating Officer Alex Song, Mynt (parent company of GCash) Chief Technology and Operations Officer Pebbles Sy, Wiz.Ai Chief Executive Officer Jianfeng Lu, and Fuse Financing Inc. President and CEO Tony Isidro.

As part of its expanding strategic partnership with Wiz.AI, a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, GCash's lending division, Fuse Financing Inc., is automating key processes in its collections operations, particularly Quality Assurance (QA), to improve customer service by strengthening its audit process and overall service quality.

Using Wiz.AI's experience, Voice AI will examine and assess call recordings, evaluating performance based on service quality. The company's commitment to moral and responsible collection practices will be maintained through this merger, and human agents will still be treated with dignity.

Over the past three years, Wiz.AI and the loan division of GCash, the leading finance app in the country, have worked together to deploy VoiceBot, an AI-powered speech automation solution that handles many, high volume collection calls. The technology has reduced the substantial manual workload, allowing agents to focus on more complex and valuable customer issues that require personal connection.

This is a big step toward tackling labor-intensive activities, which is one of the biggest issues facing the loan business. It also improves scalability, reduces errors, and enhances the entire customer experience.

Wiz.AI's technology allows the lending arm to assign low-value, repetitive tasks to human agents, such as reminding people or verifying information. By allowing agents to focus on complex customer interactions that require empathy, compromise, or more in-depth problem-solving, this improves efficiency and service quality.

“Fuse's success in leveraging voice AI is a perfect example of how the GCash ecosystem uses smart technology to solve core friction points for financial inclusion. This partnership ensures our lending platform is scalable, trustworthy, and efficient, allowing us to safely serve millions more Filipinos.” ~Pebbles Sy, Chief Technology and Operations Officer of Mynt, the Parent Company of GCash

By integrating automation into its customer service and quality assurance processes, Fuse is directly addressing the biggest bottlenecks in the industry: limited capacity, high cost, and uneven quality. The end product is a lending operation that is more accurate, scalable, and sustainable by combining computer precision with human expertise.

“This partnership is a testament to the transformative power of enterprise voice AI when applied to visionary financial ecosystems like GCash. At WIZ.AI, we’ve built our reputation as the most trusted  AI partner because we understand that leaders need more than technology—they need solutions that integrate seamlessly and scale reliably. By expanding into quality assurance, we are jointly setting a new benchmark for digital lending operations across the region.” ~Jianfeng Lu, Wiz.AI Chief Executive Officer

Fuse Financing and Wiz.AI are dedicated to creating a future where lending is not only faster, more efficient, but also more intelligent as their collaboration develops, setting new standards for digital finance in the Philippines.

Pamasko ni GCash – Get discounted MRT-3 rides when you use GCash to pay

Enjoy PHP 5 off every trip with the GCash Murang Sakay promo!

It will be more challenging to handle the holiday rush now that the busiest time of year has arrived, especially with lengthy ticket lines.   Mag-MRT nalang!   They would also like to express their gratitude to their customers by urging MRT-3 commuters to make use of GCash's new payment options!

Use GCash for single-journey tickets to avoid the teller line and go straight into the MRT Fast Lane! PLUS: As part of the Murang Sakay campaign, use any of the three new GCash payment methods at MRT-3 stations from December 8–22 to get PHP 5 off your fare.

No need to register for the promo — the discount is automatically applied upon fare deduction. Note: P28 is initially deducted upon entry, and the change will be returned to your GCash wallet after you exit.

If you haven’t tried it yet, here are the three convenient ways you can pay for your MRT-3 rides with GCash, helping you skip the line at the cashier queue for a single journey ticket and access a dedicated MRT fast lane:

GCash Tap to Pay using your phone

If you’re using an NFC-enabled Android phone, your device is your ticket for a seamless entry and exit pass.

To get started, it's a quick, one-time activation:
  1. Simply tap Settings on your phone.
  2. Turn on the NFC feature.
  3. Log in to your GCash account.
  4. Select Tap to Pay and agree to the Terms & Conditions.

Once enabled, you can quickly pay for your MRT-3 trips by signing into GCash and tapping the turnstile with your phone to get to the train platform.   If you complete the same steps when you depart, the appropriate fare and the PHP 5 reduction will be deducted from your account right away.

Tap your GCash Visa Card

Even in the case of a poor signal or low battery, you can simply navigate your MRT-3 trip with your GCash Visa Card.   You can tap your card both when you enter and when you exit, just like with the traditional MRT-3 ticket system.   When you depart, the exact fare (without the PHP 5 discount) will be invoiced, and any remaining funds from the hold will be sent back to your GCash wallet.

To use this convenient feature, order a GCash Visa Card in the app by tapping the Cards icon in the home screen.

Upon receiving your Card, make sure your GCash Visa Card is linked to your GCash account:
  1. Tap 'Cards' in the GCash app.
  2. Select 'Link my Card,' then input the One-Time Pin (OTP) and submit.
  3. Enter the last 4 digits of your card and your virtual account number, then submit.

The best part about the GCash Visa Card is that you may use it in other domestic and international stores in addition to the MRT!   It's also linked to your GCash account, so instead of standing in line at the MRT station to buy a single-journey ticket card or recharge, all you have to do is pay in via the app!

Scan your GCash Commute QR

You can also enjoy the convenience of cashless commuting by generating a Commute QR code on your GCash app. This will serve as your digital ticket without the need to input any station details.

Here’s how to use Commute QR:
  1. Tap Commute on the GCash app to activate once.
  2. At the start of the trip, tap Commute to generate QR – You may download it or take a screenshot.
  3. At the GCash fast lane, position your phone towards the scanner.
  4. Once scanned, you're all set to board the train.

Upon exit, just scan the same QR code again. The exact fare, with the PHP 5 discount applied, will be automatically deducted from your account. For Globe and TM users, this feature works even without mobile data.

Don’t miss this chance to save while enjoying a faster, more convenient commute. Whether you're tapping, scanning, or using your GCash card, getting around the city this holiday season just got easier — with an extra treat to boot!

Ready to power up your commute journey? Download the GCash App on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Huawei App Gallery.

Hands-Free, hassle-free: Huawei, GCash bring first-ever wearable payment innovation to the Philippines

“As digital payment solutions become increasingly essential, GCash Watch Pay eliminates the need to pull out a phone or wallet during purchases.  Users can link their GCash account to a compatible Huawei smartwatch and generate a QR code directly from the device.” ~Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO of GCash mobile wallet operator G-Xchange, Inc.
Huawei, GCash bring first-ever wearable payment innovation to the Philippines

Through its cooperation with Huawei, GCash continues to innovate in streamlining daily transactions by offering Watch Pay, the first wearable payment innovation in the Philippines, as more Filipinos look for quicker and more convenient ways to make payments.  With the help of this new payment method, users can easily and securely make payments right from their wrist.

The GCash QR code in the Huawei smartwatch can then be scanned by any merchant with a scanning point-of-sale system, completing the transaction instantly and securely.

This function is intended for people who are constantly on the go and may find it inconvenient to reach for their wallet or phone while running errands, exercising, or commuting.  Together with Huawei, GCash is addressing the increasing demand for safe and easy payment methods in today's mobile-first, fast-paced world by integrating payments into wearable technology.

Additionally, this collaboration with Huawei reaffirms GCash's dedication to improving the ease of digital payments, with an emphasis on security and compatibility.  In an effort to further emphasize their partnership, GCash Payment Innovations Head Dani Gil Librojo recently attended the Huawei Developer Conference in Dongguan, China. Seven million Huawei Smartwatch users in the Philippines may now make QR payments.

With Business Scan Consumer technology, Watch Pay is compatible with a few shops and is presently available for Huawei smartwatches.  This is a significant step toward increasing wearable payment options for consumers looking for transactions that are secure and efficient.
