The synergy behind SM's disaster response

“We were at the forefront during that time na tumutulong. In fact, as soon as tumigil ang pagyanig nung time na ‘yun, all hands on deck na kami. It’s really great to be part of a team, a group that is able to support and help the community in good times and in bad times. ~Andrea Rodriguez, SM Supermalls Regional Operations Head for Pampanga

In a country that suffers an average of 20 typhoons per year and is susceptible to earthquakes, communities in the Philippines often face the challenging task of having to rebuild lives overnight. Cooperation becomes crucial in these circumstances, especially for thousands of Filipinos whose lives have been completely upended by natural disasters.

For the SM Group, assisting communities in getting back on their feet is more than just a responsibility; it is a shared commitment embedded in its service culture. At the heart of this effort is the SM Foundation's disaster response program, Operation Tulong Express (OPTE).

OPTE brings together dedicated volunteer teams with the shared objective of assisting those in need. It is carefully supervised by the SM Foundation, SM Markets, and SM Supermalls. Workers at SM Markets construct Kalinga Packs in warehouse hubs that act as packaging centers while SM trucks and vans transport the goods to the affected areas. Employee volunteers from the foundation and SM Supermalls personally provide supplies in the spirit of bayanihan. They also support medical missions that offer free consultations, first aid, and medication in more badly impacted areas.

For Andrea Rodriguez, SM Supermalls Regional Operations Head for Pampanga, service is rooted in lived experiences, especially since her family was among those affected by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991. Years later, she witnessed devastation firsthand during the 2019 earthquake that affected her province and the rest of Luzon.

Her first OPTE experience came earlier when, as a new SM employee, flooding hit communities near the San Fernando mall. One of her most vivid memories was when they provided support to an 80-year-old resident in a remote barangay in Angeles following widespread floods during the pandemic.

According to Ana Datu, Regional Operations Head for Bulacan and CAMANAVA, the company’s strong culture of helping others has shaped the way employees live and work. Because of this, lending a hand has become second nature.

“We normally conduct OPTE in basketball courts so that mas marami ‘yung mapuntahan namin. But we also take time to go to the eskinitas — na kung minsan may naiiwan na mga bata at matatanda. Kapag nakita mo sila, parang may lungkot. ‘Nakalimutan kami, naiwan kami kasi nandun sila lahat sa basketball court. But when they see us there with the Kalinga Packs at inabot mo ito sa kanila, they feel ‘Wow! Hindi kami nakalimutan. These are the people who remember us.’ When I joined SM, I learned that community service and social responsibility are a big thing here. It has been a culture. It has been a habit. And it's not difficult to imbibe this because you see it, and it transcends. It starts from the leaders, trickling down to the entire team. So, everybody's moving. If you see the environment and the environment forges you to help and to be empathetic to the plight of everyone surrounding the community, surrounding the mall, your community; then mai-imbibe mo siya. ~Ana Datu, Regional Operations Head for Bulacan and CAMANAVA

Regional Operations Head Ana Datu delivers essential relief to a flood-impacted resident, embodying the spirit of SM's volunteerism. She ensures even those in hard-to-reach areas feel: "Wow! Hindi kami nakalimutan."

Both Ana and Andrea highlighted how volunteering shaped their outlook on work and in life.

A heartfelt embrace from a CAMANAVA resident receiving essential relief. By reaching deep into communities, SM volunteers ensure those affected feels remembered and supported, embodying the commitment of OPTE.

Operation Tulong Express (OPTE), a social good collaboration of SM Foundation, SM Supermalls and SM Markets, is the group’s disaster response initiative that provides immediate relief and essential goods to communities affected by calamities. In heavily impacted areas, it also deploys medical missions that offer basic healthcare and first aid.

Vista Manors Unwraps Christmas Celebrations in a Nationwide Lighting Ceremony

“Our lighting ceremony is more than a vivid display across our vertical villages; it reflects the Vista Manors vision of giving families sound real estate investments. As we unwrap the season in this wonderful spectacle, we aim to make it easier for every Filipino to secure a space in a vertical village where their stories can shine for years to come.” ~Eduardo Aguilar, Group Head
Castellana Residences in Baliwag: As the shared switch-on reached its peak, each Vista Manors vertical village was unwrapped in unison.

Vista Manors welcomed the season with a stunning display of joy and companionship as its vertical cities throughout the archipelago illuminated development markers and their Christmas installations. During the lighting ceremony, residents, buyers, and investors are kindly asked to capture the festive ambiance of the season in their condominium complex, where comfort and friendship come to life.

Vista Manors have evolved into hospitable, fantastic gathering places, from the quickly growing university clusters in Luzon to the thriving economic centers and well-liked tourist locations in Visayas and Mindanao. Each vertical town unveiled its Christmas Tree or Light Display with coordinated countdowns, demonstrating the company's commitment to creating better experiences where important milestones occur.

Vibrant Vertical Villages

Sandera Residences in Davao: The evening’s festivities opened with Christmas carols performed by choirs, echoing the notes and nostalgia woven into Filipino traditions

Christmas carols, which matched the melodies and sentimentality embedded in Filipino cultures, were performed by choirs and local artists to start the evening program. A moving display of gentle lights held high by families and potential houses resulted from the distribution of lanterns, which stood for gratitude and hope, to the attendees.

As the shared switch-on reached its peak, every vertical village unraveled at the same time. Christmas trees were lit in vivid colors, public spaces were illuminated by landmarks, and facades shone with seasonal grandeur. In some places, the lighting was followed by sparklers, musical serenades, refreshments, and eye-catching community displays.

Home for the Holidays: A Christmas invitation to come home

Santerra Residences in Naga: Vista Manors welcomed the season with celebration and community spirit as its vertical villages across the country illuminated development markers and Christmas installations.

Vista Manors' annual Home for the Holidays promotion offers spot-cash savings to investors and customers who want to take advantage of early purchases. Additional savings on ready-for-occupancy (RFO) properties enable a more smooth transition into immediate move-in, whether for leasing or end usage. It also offers flexible payment plans for its non-ready-for-occupancy (NRFO) condominiums, with a free final down payment and a fair 15% down payment for up to 45 months. This solution guarantees a contemporary living area prior to market changes and facilitates short-term commitments.

Vista Manors enhances the season with reservation benefits in a few vertical villages, such upscale gifts, gift cards, or shopping privileges worth up to PHP 10,000. It encourages buyers and investors to look into these vacation choices and discover the prospects in its condominium properties around the nation. Until December 31, 2025, the terms and conditions are in force.

Elevating condominium living for Filipinos nationwide

Santerra Residences in Naga: Vista Manors welcomed the season with celebration and community spirit as its vertical villages across the country illuminated development markers and Christmas installations.

Because Vista Manors blends the conveniences of a condominium with the advantages of every neighborhood, it appeals to homeowners and investors seeking greater experiences in their vertical villages. Because of its reduced floor-to-floor density, which allows unfettered transit over several floors, its residents enjoy an elevated lifestyle with a variety of layouts, all tucked away in mixed-use buildings with proximity to active business centers and commercial hubs. A few of the features that create a resort-themed environment and make coming home a tranquil sanctuary at the end of each day are swimming pools, function halls, play courts, gyms, well-kept parks and gardens, and view decks.

Sonnet in Stanza: The Christmas Tree lighting event was followed by sparklers, musical serenades, and a community showcase that further kindled the spirited atmosphere.

Valencia Residences in Mactan: Each vertical village unveiled its own Light Display through synchronized countdowns, reinforcing the company’s commitment to creating enhanced experiences where meaningful moments unfold.

Vista Manors ensures that all of its tenants' demands are met by using a variety of payment options and comprehensive sales services. The value of these condominiums, which provide prudent real estate investments in the face of shifting economic trends, has steadily climbed annually, providing promising long-term stability.

How OEd Students Balance Holiday Festivities With Flexible Online Classes

There is a certain enchantment about the Christmas season. Time slows just enough for reflection, conversations last a little longer, and the lighting feels warmer. In the midst of wish lists and family gatherings this year, many Filipinos are choosing a different kind of gift—one that doesn't come wrapped but lasts long after the holidays.

Online Education (OEd) students no longer have to choose between enjoyment and self-improvement throughout the Christmas season. It's about making room for both.

A Meaningful Gift in a Season of Giving
Whether as a self-gift or as assistance from family members who prioritize long-term growth, enrolling in online courses through OEd has become more deliberate this season. OEd offers a wide range of fully online programs that are designed to fit in with daily living, from senior high and undergraduate degrees to postgraduate studies and short courses.

During the holidays, this flexibility is crucial. Lessons can be reviewed as needed, classes can be accessed at any time, and study plans can be adjusted to account for travel, church functions, reunions, or extra work. Family time is never sacrificed in the name of education.

Learning That Moves With the Holidays

One of the main benefits of OEd is that it meets students where they are, both practically and literally. Whether they log in from a city apartment, a province, or even overseas, OEd students can continue their education without being limited by rigid schedules or physical classrooms.

Some folks study early in the morning before Christmas errands begin. Others catch up on modules after noche buena, when the house is finally quiet. With the help of OEd's online platform, students can advance at their own pace without feeling pressured or guilty.

Behind Every Screen Is a Story

When you go through OEd's online classrooms, you'll see more than just students: parents managing classes after putting their children to bed, working professionals preparing for career changes in the next year, and students who decided to join over the holidays as a self-promise.

Christmas is a time for many individuals to make plans, reflect on the past, and take intentional steps toward the future.

Why Online Courses Make a Thoughtful Gift

Think about it: are holiday gifts meant to delight momentarily, or to transform? Online courses, whether they’re short skills boosters or full degree pathways, carry both meaning and momentum. OEd’s offerings include:
  • Degree programs in fields like IT, Business, Arts & Sciences, Psychology, and more — all fully online and CHED-accredited, so learners earn credentials that matter.
  • Postgraduate studies, including Master’s and Doctorate programs for career builders seeking advanced expertise.
  • Short courses on practical topics (like TESOL certification and communication skills) that can be completed swiftly and at one’s own pace.
  • Flexible senior high and basic education options, perfect for learners of all ages — including those continuing education from home.

OEd is ideal for a variety of learners due to its breadth, whether you're giving it to a friend who needs skills for a new career path, a parent who wants to finish a degree, or a child who is ready to take senior high online.

Carrying the Spirit of Learning Into the New Year

In addition to finishing modules, OEd students are setting goals as the year comes to an end. Studying throughout the holidays becomes a demonstration of fortitude, hope, and confidence.

In a time of love and generosity, investing in education feels right.

Because sometimes the most powerful gift is something that continues to shape you into the person you are today rather than something you open only once.

Road To Creation: A Collaboration Between DJI and Li Auto

A workshop that talks about adventure fueling the immersive technology in every frame.

On December 13, 2025, DJI and Li Auto arranged a Daytour Camping Workshop at Camp Morri Farm in Antipolo, Rizal. The event included Li Auto's latest L9 model and DJI Power 2000 & DJI Osmo Action 6, which dazzled media attendees with their reliability and versatility. Despite the erratic weather, participants relished a unique hands-on experience that combined learning, exploration, and creation. It demonstrated how modern technology can transform camping and provide more flexibility and freedom for outdoor activities.

Li Auto: Built for Local Conditions, Designed for Exploration

To meet the demands of the Philippine landscape, contemporary camping arrangements combine durable, weather-resistant materials with ingenious, adaptable design. Because these systems are built to tolerate tropical heat, humidity, and changing terrain, they make it easier to move from city drives to off-grid places. When paired with innovative mobility and reliable power solutions, they enable confidence exploration, whether on mountain roads, coastal routes, or remote camping areas.

DJI’s Power Station that Adapts in Camping Scene

During the event, DJI showcased DJI Power 2000 as a vital enabler of the camping and road trip setup, demonstrating how portable power is fundamental to modern outdoor activities. Built to function in a range of Philippine conditions, the power plant proved its reliability in off-grid environments by providing all-day support for essential equipment, such as mobile devices, food items, and lighting.

By being included into the camping area alongside Li Auto cars, DJI Power 2000 exhibited the smooth integration of intelligent mobility and portable energy. Its versatile power output allowed multiple devices to run simultaneously, resulting in a comfortable and well-organized campsite that smoothly transitioned from daytime activities to evening use.

By presenting DJI Power 2000 in a real outdoor environment, the event demonstrated its value for camping, lengthy road trips, and emergency preparedness. DJI's commitment to offering smart power solutions that foster everyday reliability, creativity, and exploration was underlined during the presentation.

Action Camera: A Closer Look Through Media Designed for Movement in Outdoor

DJI held a special Q&A session focused on the DJI Action 6 as part of the workshop program. Giancarlo Viterbo of Gadget Pilipinas was the featured speaker. The conversation helped participants and the media better understand the action camera's target market, design philosophy, and practical uses, especially in outdoor and mobile environments.

Giancarlo provided enlightening explanations on how the DJI Action 6 functions in real-world scenarios, emphasizing aspects that are crucial for travel, adventure, and content production. Participants gained further knowledge about how the camera adjusts to various shooting scenarios, such as prolonged outside activities or quick movement.

As part of the workshop program, DJI hosted a unique Q&A session centered around the DJI Action 6. The featured speaker was Giancarlo Viterbo of Gadget Pilipinas. Participants' and the media's understanding of the action camera's target market, design philosophy, and useful applications—particularly in outdoor and mobile settings—was improved by the discussion. Giancarlo gave insightful explanations of how the DJI Action 6 works in practical situations, highlighting features that are essential for adventure, travel, and content creation. AMA's 45-year history: a legacy based on dreams, perseverance, and possibility

Celebrating the institution that shaped generations of Filipino learners—from a small classroom in 1980 to a global education network.

Every great story begins with a dreamer.  Sometimes it's a young person seeking a chance to lead a better life.  A parent may occasionally wish for their child to have the same opportunities as themselves. Sometimes it's only one entrepreneur standing in a little, leased room with a big enough idea to bring the future a little closer.

This is the tale of AMA.

More than that, though, it narrates the story of every student who has ever walked through its corridors with the conviction that "Kaya ko pala."

Where the Dream Started (1978–1980)

Computers were mysterious, expensive, rare, and a little scary in 1978.  They became the first Computerland franchise in Asia, though, when AMA dared to bring them to the Philippines.  This bold action was unrelated to business. It was a quiet gesture of belief that Filipinos ought to have access to the technology that is changing the world. A year later, Computerland was setting the standard for microcomputer sales and creating the foundation for a country that would eventually develop into a hub for information technology.

And in 1980, 13 students attended the inaugural day of the AMA Institute of Computer Studies in a small room on the second floor of a rented building.  Their classroom was a promise, not just a space.  A door leading to unimaginable horizons.

Building a Family, One Campus at a Time (1981–1990)

As AMA grew, it didn’t expand like a corporation. It expanded like a family learning to make space for every new child with a dream.

Cubao. Makati. Quezon City. Cebu. Davao.

Every new campus has a story to tell: students bringing used bags, families waiting outside lectures, and young men and women discovering a gift they never knew they had.

When AMA built a nationwide computer network to link all of its campuses in 1987, it achieved an extraordinary feat. Again proving that innovation was a service rather than a luxury, AMA was establishing a digital community during a time when most homes lacked internet connection.

Going Global, Staying Filipino (1991–2000)

By the 1990s, AMA began reaching places many Filipinos only dreamed of visiting.

Guam, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, California.

Nevertheless, AMA did not expand to include overseas affiliates. It expanded to include Filipino groups living overseas, including parents working overseas, children growing up in new locations, and families seeking connections abroad. Their intended identities and their present selves were connected by AMA.  AMA was concurrently forming partnerships with multinational giants like Lucent Technologies, Microsoft, NCC-UK, Cisco, and Hewlett Packard in order to show the world that Filipino talent belonged on the global stage.

Furthermore, Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V, the founder of AMA, was hired to supervise not just the Philippines' preparations but also to sit among world leaders getting ready for the digital transformation of the century while everyone else was getting ready for the Y2K panic.

From a little room in Manila, the ambition had expanded to the UN halls.

A University With a Heart (2000–2010)

The new millennium marked a turning point.

In 2002, AMA officially became AMA University—a recognition not just of academic excellence, but of its impact on Filipino lives.

Makati’s new AMA One building rose like a symbol of hope. The School of Medicine opened in both Makati and Cavite, giving birth to doctors who would someday serve communities, far-flung towns, even pandemic frontlines.

AMA also pioneered blended learning years before the country knew it would one day need such innovation for survival. Through satellite-powered classes, students in remote islands were learning the same lessons as students in major cities. For many, it was their first real shot at finishing college.

A Home for Every Dreamer (2010–2020)

The next decade was filled with stories of young people defying odds.

Students from Bahrain bringing home robotics awards.

Learners from Jakarta, Macau, and Oman finding a Filipino-style warmth on their campuses.

OFW families reunited through AMA’s international institutes.

And thousands of Filipinos—many already working—earning degrees through AMA Online Education, the first fully online degree program in the country.

It was no longer just about diplomas.
It was about dignity.

About second chances.
About proving that education can meet people where they are—not the other way around.

Dreams That Evolve With the Times (2020–2025)

As the world changed rapidly, AMA refused to be left behind.

New programs in Cybersecurity, Data Science, Blockchain, and Artificial Intelligence opened doors for Filipino youth to compete globally.

Partnerships with CompTIA and PeopleCert ensured students graduated with credentials recognized around the world.
The vision expanded beyond classrooms:
  • Real estate developments valued at over PHP20 billion
  • A hospital rising in ARA Vista Village
  • A rural bank that became the largest used-car loan bank in the country
  • A banana farm exporting to Asia and the Middle East
  • Water utilities, telecommunication franchises, power distribution companies
  • And a foundation offering scholarships and medical missions to those who needed help the most

AMA was no longer just an educational institution.

It had become an ecosystem—supporting families, communities, and industries.

In 2025, AMA earned ISO Certification and introduced U-Learn 24/7, a platform envisioned as the “Uber of Philippine Education,” making learning available anywhere, anytime.

The dream had come full circle: education for all, without limits.

The Story That Still Continues

Forty-five years after that first small classroom opened its doors, AMA stands not just as an institution, but as a living testament to what happens when a dream refuses to stay small.

When you walk through any AMA campus today—whether in Quezon City, Dubai, Hong Kong, Laguna, or online from the quiet corner of a home—you will feel the same pulse that began in 1980: the belief that every Filipino deserves a fighting chance.

Because the truth is this:

AMA did not grow because it had the best computers.

It grew because it never stopped believing in the people who sat in front of them.

For every scholar who once thought education was out of reach…
For every working student who attended class after a long shift…
For every OFW parent who dreamed of a better future for their children…
For every young dreamer who arrived unsure, uncertain, or unseen…

AMA became the place where they were told, “Kaya mo ‘yan. Tuloy lang.”
And they did.
They graduated.
They built careers.
They lifted their families.
They broke cycles.
They created new legacies of their own.

A Legacy That Belongs to the Filipino

AMA’s 45-year story is not defined by the rise of buildings, the expansion of campuses, the international branches, or the technological firsts—though those milestones matter.

The real milestone is this:

Millions of dreams, once fragile and flickering, now stand tall because AMA believed in them first.

From the students who became engineers, nurses, entrepreneurs, soldiers, and IT leaders…
To the parents who finally watched their children cross a graduation stage…
To the communities touched by the foundation’s missions and the jobs created across industries…

AMA’s greatest achievement has always been its people.

And Now, the Next Chapter Begins

As AMA steps into its 45th year, it does so with the same courage that shaped its beginning—fearless, forward-looking, and rooted in purpose.

Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Global Education, U-Learn 24/7—these are not just programs.

They are bridges leading the next generation into a world that keeps changing faster than ever.

And at the center of it all is a promise that has never wavered:
Wherever there is a Filipino with a dream, AMA will always make room.
A seat in the classroom.
A path to a degree.
A doorway to a future that once felt impossible.

Because dreams deserve more than inspiration—they deserve a home.

And for 45 years, that home has been AMA.

And the story is far from over.
In fact… the next great chapter is about to begin.
