Online Education (OEd) Brings Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum Online, Putting Career Readiness at the Center

As Philippine senior high school education moves into a new phase, Online Education (OEd) is positioning flexible online learning alongside a curriculum that is increasingly focused on practical skills, career pathways, and college and job preparation.

As Filipino students prepare for college and the workforce, OEd's Senior High School program is also changing.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year, OEd will offer the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) Curriculum, which mirrors the framework under DepEd Order No. 17, s. 2026 as well as DepEd Order No. 009, s. School calendar for three terms. 2026.

The modification goes beyond simply updating the OEd curriculum. It gives students an additional way to get ready for an increasingly skills-driven economy by combining the flexibility of online learning with a more effective and career-focused Senior High School curriculum.

A New SHS for a Changing Future

One of the most noticeable changes is the shift to a three-term academic structure with 215 class days distributed throughout the school year.

Additionally, 180 instructional hours—60 hours per term—have been allotted to core subjects. The additional instructional time serves as a buffer against potential disruptions and guaranties that students complete the required learning competencies.

The revised structure also places a greater emphasis on electives and hands-on learning.

Academic Track students will take an elective in Grade 11, but Tech-Pro students will have much more time for hands-on learning (a Tech-Pro elective is allotted 330 instructional hours over three terms).

With a 320-hour requirement that enables the integration of recently introduced subjects while providing students with practical experience, Work Immersion remains a significant component of the curriculum.

The changes reflect a broader trend in senior high school, where students are shifting from simply completing courses to developing skills that will support them in their future academic and professional pursuits. More Choices and Clearer Career Paths

The revised curriculum also expands the conversation about what students can do beyond senior high school.

The updated fields represented in OEd's aligned programs include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Business and Entrepreneurship; ICT Support and Computer Programming Technologies; Creative Arts and Design Technology; Hospitality and Tourism; Sports, Health and Wellness; and Arts, Social Science, and Humanities.

These pathways can help students make connections between their Senior High School education and possible careers and industries, ranging from engineering, nursing, and technology to entrepreneurship, hospitality, tourism, creative industries, and sports.

Additional structural changes are also introduced by the curriculum. The former "Doorways" have been renamed Cross-Track options to allow for greater flexibility across learning pathways. In order to facilitate the progressive development of research competencies, Research Methods has also been divided into Research 1 and Research 2.

More Choices, Clearer Career Pathways

Students graduate from senior high school with an understanding of how education connects to future opportunities.

Where Flexibility Meets Career Readiness OEd's proposal is particularly relevant because education is moving away from the traditional classroom at the same time as the curriculum change.

OEd's online learning model allows senior high school students to pursue the enhanced curriculum with greater flexibility in where and how they study.

That can be particularly beneficial for students balancing work, family responsibilities, hobbies, or circumstances that make consistent attendance in class difficult.

OEd's approach combines two increasingly important priorities in Philippine education: better preparation for life after senior high school and greater accessibility in the delivery of that education.

For parents, the shift can also change the way Senior High School choices are evaluated.

Nowadays, it's more crucial to think about which learning pathway will best prepare a student for entrepreneurship, college, the workforce, or other opportunities than just which strand they should follow skills development. Building Education Around What Comes Next.

The revised curriculum is still being applied in a changing way. OEd's curriculum materials state that subject codes are still undergoing final review and development. Following curriculum development and validation, corresponding codes and additional technical information will be added.

However, the larger academic structure, subject distribution, and curriculum design already set the framework for implementation.

That distinction is very important. Senior high school is expected to do more than just act as a transitional institution between basic education and college. It must help young Filipinos identify their strengths, develop relevant skills, and make more informed decisions about their future.

OEd's Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum brings this objective into the context of online learning.

"NEW SHS" is the campaign's tagline. Instead of just changing the subjects or schedules, OEd is presenting the curriculum shift as a chance for students to reevaluate how Senior High School can prepare them for the future.

In an economy where industries, technology, and the skills that employers need are always evolving, education must be able to adapt.

The future of Senior High School may therefore be measured not simply by how much students learn, but by how well that learning prepares them for what comes after graduation. By combining the Strengthened SHS Curriculum with flexible online education, OEd is betting that students should not have to choose between an education that fits their lives and one that prepares them for their future.

What Filipino Families Should Know About the Journey of Their Milk

“The nutritional value of milk is influenced not only by its formulation. It is also shaped by the freshness of its raw ingredients and by every step of the journey from pasture to production. FEIHE manages more than 150,000 self-owned Holstein dairy cows across 15 large-scale ranches, allowing it to take full control over milk quality from the very beginning. Every cow is raised under strict animal welfare standards and fed a carefully balanced Total Mixed Ration (TMR) formulated according to its nutritional needs. Each cow consumes approximately RMB 140, or PHP 1,260, worth of feed every day, while digital monitoring systems track its health, nutrition, and milk production. These natural conditions help produce high-quality fresh milk while supporting a healthier environment for dairy cows throughout the year. This is why FEIHE has invested in a fully integrated industrial chain—from pasture and ingredient production to manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. Technology is therefore part of a broader system designed to protect quality throughout the journey. Fresh milk is at its best immediately after milking. Preserving that freshness requires speed, precision, and complete control. The journey of milk matters just as much as its nutritional content. At FEIHE, freshness is not just a promise—it is a system built on science, quality, and trust.” ~Lee Meng Thoong, General Manager of FEIHE’s Overseas Business Unit
Environment plays a vital role in ensuring milk quality. FEIHE’s ranches are located in the Golden Milk Belt at 47° north latitude, one of the world’s premier dairy regions. They share the same ecosystem as the Zhalong Wetland, home to the ecologically sensitive red-crowned cranes, an indicator of a clean and well-preserved natural environment.

When discussing milk nutrition, it's common to bring up protein, calcium, DHA, vitamins, and other beneficial ingredients found in milk cans. Many Filipino families are familiar with these ingredients, and for good reason. They play a vital role in supporting children's growth. But just as crucial is the question of how those nutrients got there.

According to Lee Meng Thoong, General Manager of FEIHE's Overseas Business Unit, understanding milk's history is essential to understanding its quality.

From the raising of dairy cows to the speed at which fresh milk is processed to the monitoring and safeguarding of each batch, the supply chain is crucial to preserving the intrinsic goodness of milk.

1. Freshness begins with healthy cows

FEIHE has invested in a fully integrated industrial chain—from pasture and ingredient production to manufacturing, packaging, and distribution—allowing complete control over milk quality from the very beginning. Photo taken at the FEIHE Smart Industrial Park in Harbin, China.

Good milk starts long before it reaches the factory. It begins with healthy cows raised in the right environment. When a cow is healthy, it can produce better-quality milk, making responsible dairy farming the foundation of the whole production process.
Lee explained that this focus on quality begins at the very source of the milk:

2. Freshness is protected by nature

Preserving milk’s freshness requires speed, precision, and complete control. FEIHE uses a one-step freshness process that transforms fresh milk into powder within just two hours. Inside FEIHE’s intelligent factories, advanced automation minimizes human intervention throughout production.

Environment is equally important. Around the world, the temperate zone between 40° and 50° north latitude is recognized as the Golden Milk Source Belt, home to renowned dairy regions such as Wisconsin in the United States, Alberta in Canada, and Hokkaido in Japan.

FEIHE’s ranches are located within this same belt, in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province, at 47° north latitude, sharing the same ecosystem as the world-famous Zhalong Wetland.

The region offers a rare combination of fertile black soil, abundant sunshine, a cool climate, naturally alkaline mineral water, and clean air. FEIHE also manages one million mu, or approximately 666,667 hectares, of dedicated forage fields within this ecosystem, allowing the company to grow its own feed and maintain complete control over quality from soil to pasture.

3. Freshness is preserved through innovation

Good milk starts with healthy cows raised in the right environment. FEIHE manages more than 150,000 self-owned Holstein dairy cows across 15 large-scale ranches. Each cow follows a carefully managed nutrition and care program throughout its lifetime to ensure optimal health and consistently produce high-quality fresh milk.

Preserving freshness is not simply about what happens inside the factory, but having control over the entire production journey:

Fresh milk is transported through a fully enclosed cold chain and processed within approximately two hours after milking using FEIHE’s one-step, low-temperature fresh milk process. By reducing transportation time and unnecessary handling, more of the milk’s naturally occurring active nutrients are retained.

Inside FEIHE’s intelligent factories, advanced automation minimizes human intervention throughout production. An AI-powered real-time monitoring system continuously tracks every stage of manufacturing in milliseconds, ensuring full traceability, consistent quality, and food safety from raw milk to the finished can.

This commitment to quality was recently observed by representatives from the International Dairy Federation (IDF) during their visit to FEIHE’s ranches and manufacturing facilities, where they toured the company’s integrated production system and saw firsthand how science, automation, and supply chain management work together to support freshness and nutrition.

Why This Matters to Filipino Families
Filipino parents today are looking beyond nutrition labels. They want to know where their milk comes from, how it is made, and whether it meets the highest standards of quality and safety.

DKT Philippines Foundation Launches First-Ever Family Planning Floating Clinic in the Philippines

"For more than three decades, DKT Philippines Foundation has worked to remove barriers to family planning through innovation and strong partnerships. The SODEX Floating Clinic is another important step in that mission, allowing us to bring more communities better access to family planning products and services of their choice." ~Denise van Dijk, Chair of the Board of DKT Philippines Foundation, Inc. and President and CEO of DKT Health, Inc.,

In partnership with the Ministry of Health-BARMM, the first-of-its-kind SODEX Floating Clinic aims to bring free family planning services to hard-to-reach communities in BARMM

I recently learned about an inspiring healthcare initiative that I believe deserves more attention—the launch of the Philippines’ first-ever family planning floating clinic by the DKT Philippines Foundation, a non-profit organization powered by TRUST.

The floating clinic was officially launched on August 20, 2026, at BangkaPro in Taguig City, the vessel’s builder. What makes this initiative special is that it was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through DKT Philippines Foundation’s Service Outreach and Distribution Extension (SODEX) Program.

For me, this is more than just another healthcare project. It’s a creative and meaningful way of bringing essential family planning and reproductive health services directly to communities where access can be challenging because of geography.

During the launch, DKT Philippines Foundation Chair of the Board and DKT Health, Inc. President and CEO Denise van Dijk emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to making quality reproductive healthcare accessible to every Filipino.

A Floating Clinic That Brings Healthcare to the Last Mile

Starting September 2026, the floating clinic will travel to communities in Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur.

The goal is simple but very important: make quality family planning services more accessible, especially for people living in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

What I appreciate about the project is that the services are offered FOR FREE. The floating clinic will provide family planning consultations and counseling, as well as different contraceptive options depending on the needs and informed choices of patients.

Among the services available are long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and two-rod implants, together with temporary methods including pills, injectables, and condoms.

Why Family Planning Access Matters

Family planning is not simply about contraception. It is also about giving individuals and couples the opportunity to make informed choices about their reproductive health and future.

The initiative also received support from the Ministry of Health-BARMM Director General II, Technical Services Dr. Ahmad-Fawadz Israel represented Minister Dr. Kadil “Jojo” M. Sinolinding Jr. and shared the Ministry’s message about improving healthcare access in communities where geography can still be a major barrier.

Representing the Department of Health (DOH) was National Family Planning Program Manager Dr. Hardy Dumawing. The DOH highlighted that family planning is an important health intervention and an essential part of Universal Health Care.

And honestly, this is where I think the floating clinic can make a real difference—because healthcare should not stop at the places that are easiest to reach.

"Many communities across BARMM continue to face significant challenges in accessing healthcare because of distance and geography. The SODEX Floating Clinic allows us to bring family planning information and services directly to our people instead of expecting them to travel long distances for care. This public-private partnership strengthens our commitment to making quality reproductive healthcare more accessible and responsive to the needs of Bangsamoro communities." ~Dr. Kadil "Jojo" M. Sinolinding Jr., Director General II, Technical Services, Minister of the Ministry of Health-BARMM

Additionally, Program Manager for National Family Planning Dr. Hardy Dumawing joined the event on behalf of the Department of Health (DOH). The department emphasized that family planning, as a health intervention, is an essential component of Universal Health Care, the country's major health reform aimed at providing every Filipino with accessible and high-quality healthcare.

Projects like the floating clinic help bring services up to the last mile, contributing to better health outcomes while advancing the country's efforts to achieve its sustainable development goals.

Part of a Bigger Mission

The floating clinic is the newest addition to DKT Philippines Foundation’s SODEX Program, which already provides free family planning services through partner healthcare facilities and the country’s first family planning mobile clinic.

With the addition of this floating clinic, DKT is expanding its reach even further, particularly to communities that may have limited access to healthcare facilities.

What also caught my attention is that DKT Philippines Foundation has been working in family planning and reproductive health since 1991, focusing on education, advocacy, partnerships, and access to reproductive health products and services.

Powered by TRUST, the Foundation reinvests proceeds from TRUST product sales into free family planning services and outreach programs for vulnerable, remote, and underserved communities.

"Every community faces different challenges in accessing healthcare, and our outreach programs are designed to respond to those realities. Our work goes beyond providing services-we continuously look for ways to deliver care that is more accessible, responsive, and sustainable for the communities we serve." ~Loida Almendares, Director of Programs of DKT Philippines Foundation, Inc.

Bringing Choice and Care Closer to Filipinos

For me, the launch of the Philippines’ first family planning floating clinic is a great example of how healthcare can be brought closer to the people—literally going beyond roads and traditional healthcare facilities to reach communities across the islands.

As the floating clinic begins its operations in September, I’m hoping this initiative will help more Filipinos access reliable information, professional consultations, and quality family planning services without having to travel long distances just to get the care they need.

At the heart of the project is informed choice—making sure Filipinos have access to the information, options, and healthcare services they need to make decisions about their reproductive health.

It’s a reminder that wherever you are in the Philippines, access to quality healthcare should never be limited by geography.
