“At AirAsia, every flight is anchored on safety, ensuring our guests will get to their destination safely and conveniently. Triggering a smoke detector can cause panic, unnecessary inconvenience and disrupt operations. Also, malfunctioning vaping devices may pose risk inside the cabin. While our team is highly trained in dealing with various situations on ground and in flight, we count on our guests’ cooperation and commitment in making sure safety is never compromised.” ~First Officer Steve F. Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs

Following recent instances where passengers were discovered in violation of the rules, AirAsia Philippines has strongly reminded all of its passengers that smoking and vaping are completely forbidden on all of its flights.
From January to August 2025, the airline's Security Department documented 10 instances of passengers caught vaping in flight, either in their seats or in restrooms that set off smoke detectors, despite the airline's proactive efforts to issue numerous placarded advisories and public announcements.
AirAsia warns visitors that such behavior is absolutely prohibited by AirAsia Philippines' published airline regulations and is prohibited by Republic Acts No. 9211 (Tobacco Regulation Act) and No. 11900 (Vape Regulation Act), all of which forbid vaping in public transportation, including airplanes.
Upon reaching their destination, guests who are caught vaping face immediate referral to airport police, blotter entry, and a fine of up to ₱5,000, depending on the offense. If safety is compromised, they may also face charges under the Civil Aviation Authority Act (RA 9497), as well as administrative sanctions from the airline, which could include a lifetime ban from all AirAsia Philippines flights.
AirAsia keeps a clear and uniform no-smoking policy from the boarding gate to the aircraft cabin in order to avoid such events. Pre-flight announcements, LED signage throughout the flight, and boarding cards all prominently convey these reminders.
Tamper-proof smoke detectors are installed in the restrooms, and cabin staff keep a close eye on passenger behavior to ensure prompt action when needed.
