Oona Insurance, one of the fastest-growing general insurers in the Philippines, has unveiled two flagship health products: Global Shield, an international plan with up to USD 2 million in worldwide coverage for Filipinos who are always on the go, and Purple Shield, a premium peso-based plan with up to ₱5 million in local coverage for families searching for excellent care nearby.

Jodi Sta. Maria, Guest Speaker at the Oona Premium Healthcare Launch

The launch was held at the Manila Marriott Hotel in Pasay City on October 1 and was attended by corporate executives, partners, and members of the media.   Jodi Sta, a wellness advocate and award-winning actor, gave a speech during the event.   Speaking on "Wellness: The Investment You Can't Ignore," Maria highlighted the growing importance of preventative and holistic care, which aligns with Oona's goal to encourage both treatment and wellbeing.

Meeting Evolving Needs with Global Shield and Purple Shield

With medical costs rising faster than incomes and families demanding better private care, Oona’s new plans provide meaningful choice:
  • Global Shield: An international flagship plan for globally mobile Filipinos, offering access to leading hospitals and specialists worldwide, including competitive rates for options to seek treatment in Singapore and across the region.
  • Purple Shield: A premier peso-based plan for Filipino families seeking comprehensive, affordable protection at home.

Together, these solutions surpass the one-size-fits-all strategy of traditional insurance.   By offering both domestic and international options, Oona ensures that Filipinos may receive adaptable, relevant, and comprehensive protection.

Last year, Oona began to receive critical illness insurance.   The company expands its range of health products and confirms its commitment to giving Filipino families comprehensive, long-lasting protection with the launch of Global Shield and Purple Shield.

Digital-First, Customer-First

What sets Oona apart is not only coverage, but its customer experience. Its digital-first platform makes every step faster and simpler through:
  • Instant quotes and same-day policy issuance for eligible applicants
  • Real-time claim tracking with transparent summaries
  • Online access to policy details, utilization and claims
  • Paperless onboarding with e-signatures
  • Fully digital overseas claims for faster reimbursement

This end-to-end ecosystem delivers faster, clearer, and more convenient protection which sets a new benchmark for health insurance in the Philippines.

Leadership Perspectives

“For Filipinos, protection isn’t just about covering hospital bills. It’s about staying healthy and caring for the whole family. That’s why we go beyond treatment to include preventive and wellness benefits like check-ups, vaccinations, mental health support, and telemedicine. Health protection must be holistic in order to provide everyday peace of mind for Filipino families.” ~Ninoy Rollan, CEO of Oona Philippines

InLife and GCash Partnership Raises Women’s Role in the Digital Economy

“Our partnership with GCash, the largest FinTech platform in the country, is the latest and, by far, the widest net we are casting in our financial inclusion agenda for women. GCash breaks the barriers for the millions of the unbanked to avail themselves of financial services and health solutions at the most convenient and safe way. The Covid-19 pandemic has shifted the attitudes and behavior favorably toward getting adequate healthcare and insurance coverage. And data shows that it is the women who are active seekers not necessarily for themselves, but for their husbands, children, or parents. Our partnership with GCash, the largest FinTech platform in the country, is the latest and, by far, the widest net we are casting in our financial inclusion agenda for women. GCash breaks the barriers for the millions of the unbanked to avail themselves of financial services and health solutions at the most convenient and safe way. It is our hope that millions of Filipinos will enjoy peace of mind knowing that they have life and health insurance coverage for themselves and their loved available through GCash.” ~Nina D. Aguas, InLife Chairperson

But more than a channel to collect premium payments, the partnership between InLife and GCash serves a more meaningful purpose – inclusion.

Empowering Women Through Financial Inclusion

This has allowed them access to relevant products ranging from life insurance to health care coverage through InLife and InLife Health Care, respectively. We are providing more Filipinos access to get covered more quickly and conveniently, giving them and their loved ones peace of mind. This is another step forward in our pursuit of financial inclusion – where we strive to make financial services more accessible to all Filipinos, especially for the unbanked and underbanked. Through our app, they now have access to digital financial services – even as the banking penetration remains low. Usage of our app is at an all-time high, as people now think of GCash as a digital life hack and more than just an e-wallet.” ~Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO

Inspired by the Sheroes Movement

"We realized that online storefronts are viable distribution channels to reach more women who are looking for affordable protection products for life and health for their family. While tech is not usually a field women are associated with, our team at GCash is proof that it can happen – with women making up around half of our employee base.” ~Noemi G. Country Bankers Insurance Corporation (CBLIC) "A company with a heart"

“We have made insurance very simple. We are proud to be a Filipino company.  While we offer basic insurance products, we try to be relevant to the market we serve. There have always been hurdles to overcome, but we remain committed to addressing the needs of the common Filipino. Through the years we have proven to be reliable insurers by reaching out to our target market and giving them insurance that works for them. I want our company to be known as a ‘company with a heart,’ and one that can be relied upon to follow through with its commitment. Our promise is to keep delivering what we have pledged to give. We want to continue being known as the company with a heart that can be relied upon. Our products are simple, accessible and important.” ~Geraldine Desiderio-Garcia, Country Bankers Insurance Group (CBIG) Senior Vice President and General Manager

Country Bankers Insurance Corporation (CBLIC) was established on March 28, 1965, founded by Mr. Jose E. Desiderio, Sr.,  as the President. They have made insurance very simple. While they offer basic insurance products, they try to be as relevant as possible to the market where they serve. Insurance helps families cope with life's challenges by ensuring dreams are fulfilled. Country Bankers is simply with a heart and a company that can be relied upon to deliver its commitment. The insurance needs started in rural areas, catering to small and medium business entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen, and public school teachers - a market that had been untapped in the 60s.

Isa akong apo ng isang magsasaka sa Pangasinan, at ipinagmamalaki ko na ang lolo ko ay isang magsasaka. My grandfather is now 84 years old who had lived and worked all his life on the farm long before I was born. Whenever I visit him and some of our relatives I had this heavy feeling of them having a simple and contented life as if they don't worry anything at all. But I was wrong all along because one of their worries especially when they get old is life after not having the energy no more of working at the farm while buong buhay nila doon sila umasa sa masagana at magandang ani and most of all death, I witnessed how they find ways for a relatives burial because they didn't even had the chance to have their own bank accounts because getting one would cost them money just by accomplishing the requirements alone its like it became their less priorities in life. After being invited last year Country Bankers event I immediately had hope for them they're the ones who came into my mind I was like if I could get their right away and tell them about Country Bankers I would because it's exactly what they need and what they can reach and or afford. The first person I told about the good news is my tatay (grandfather) though he was hesitant already because of his age I also adviced my cousins and other relatives about it the only problem now is educating them about Country Bankers which I am looking forward that Country Bankers would have a program to visit provinces and inform and educate people about having one because it's for them and it's important for them to have one. HINDI PA HULI PARA MAGING INSURED SILA!

This legacy of accessible insurance to low-income Filipinos has been passed on to the Desiderio family third-generation members who are now running the company. At its helm is Geraldine Desiderio-Garcia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of CBIG.

CBIG has 2 subsidiaries:
  1. Country Bankers Insurance Corporation (CBLIC) - a life insurance provider.
  2. Country Bankers Insurance Corporation (CBIC) - for non-life insurance products. Both have stayed on track in giving Filipinos straightforward and non-intimidating insurance options.
Country Bankers Insurance Corporation micro-insurance products help educate Filipinos on the benefits of insurance by promoting its value to a broader market. A large consciousness on the advantages of insurance is instrumental in protecting disadvantaged Filipinos, who face heavier burdens during times of catastrophe and financial distress.

For several years now Country Bankers Insurance Corporation continues to develop a wide array of insurance plans that are not only practical and relevant but also provide the necessary support for plan holders in times of need.

The Classic Benefit Plan offers insurance protection up to age 96 and is payable in a three-, five-, seven-, or ten-year period. Alalay sa Buhay (ASB), on the other hand, provides renewable one-year insurance to individuals 13-70 years old for only Php 365.00, with natural and accidental death benefits. ASB is also available for families and seniors, with ASB family being renewable up to age 70 for principal insured and covers up to 3 to 5 family members for only Php 750.00 for one unit. ASB for Seniors covers individuals ages 71-80 and offers insurance for one year for only Php 1,000.00 for one unit.
