Vermosa Green Run 2026 will return with more robust sustainability advocacy and practical solutions to protect the environment

“We want runners to feel – both literally and symbolically – that choosing to participate means choosing to support responsible resource use. Embedding sustainability directly into the race kits was a deliberate choice that reflects Vermosa’s values. It transforms a souvenir into a lasting reminder of conscious living.” ~Kristin Raval-Ofilada, Ayala Land Project Development Manager

The historic fifth consecutive Vermosa Green Run, a ground-breaking advocacy event that motivated the community to return to the tracks after the pandemic, will take place in Vermosa, Imus, Cavite on June 28, 2026.

This time, the race is taking proactive steps to increase the running community's passion and commitment to an active lifestyle and sustainable green living. The marathon has attracted fitness fanatics, casual runners, professional athletes, pet owners, and families out for fun and fitness.

One of the main attractions of the fifth edition of the Green Run, which incorporates more ecologically conscious elements into the race experience and encourages racers to take part in long-term forest restoration programs across the country, is immersion in nature and lush, green surroundings. For instance, running the scenic Green Run course inspires runners to promote conservation and sustainable living.

This year, in order to take advantage of race kit discounts, families, pet owners, elite athletes, and fitness enthusiasts are being asked to actively contribute in localized waste reduction by bringing old PET (polyethylene terephthalate) water bottles or food containers when they register. 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K, and a 1K Dog race are all included in the multi-level race.  In order to reduce their detrimental impacts on the environment and encourage sustainable building and community behaviors, the Makati Development Corporation (MDC) would accept the collected bottles and upcycle them into eco bricks.

Additionally, racing jerseys, singlets, and dog bandanas are made from recycled PET bottles. Ms. Raval-Ofilada added that in addition to the recycled race suits, this year's Green Run encourages group participation from racing enthusiasts.

“Every group of 10 participants automatically becomes part of Haribon Foundation’s Forests for Life Movement. As such, they will support native tree planting and forest restoration projects in partner communities nationwide. Through this movement, Haribon brings together individuals, organizations, and local communities to restore degraded forests using a science-based rain forestation approach focused on planting and nurturing native tree species.” ~Ms. Raval-Ofilada

The Forests for Life Movement seeks to create long-term ecological value by ensuring that seedlings endure, grow, and mature into healthy forests. Restored woods help provide clean water, healthy soil, and stable temperatures, all of which are critical for sustaining communities across the country, according to Ofilada.

In addition to environmental preservation, the Green Run is still founded on holistic health, animal welfare, and athletic performance. As co-beneficiaries of the Haribon Foundation, Takbo Kabitenyo and Pawssion Project highlight the link between community and planetary health, emphasizing that safeguarding natural ecosystems is crucial to the welfare of both humans and animals.

The Green Run, which will take place in Vermosa's expansive, ecologically sensitive open spaces, will make use of the top-notch facilities of the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, the region's leading hub for athletic training and active lifestyles. As anticipated, the 2026 marathon will have stringent waste-reduction guidelines and conscientious hydration systems to promote eco-friendly practices even after the run.
